HP Elitebooks 8440 and 8540 Get Core i7 Upgrade, USB 3.0 If You Want

Labels: , , ,

HP isn't done yet. They've just revealed some more notebook for the business customers, the Elitebook 8440 and 8540. They have 14-inch and 15.6-inch displays (both 1,600 x 900 resolution), respectively, and they're both LED-backlit anti-glare which is great. Both of these notebooks are highly customizable in the specifications department, but the model under $1,000 will feature an Intel Core i5-520M and 2GB of DDR3 RAM. If you're willing to spend as much as possible you can go for the Intel Core i7-820QM CPU, 16GB of RAM, Nvidia's Quadro graphics, and a 256GB SSD. The Elitebook 8540 actually has three USB 2.0 ports and even two USB 3.0 ports.

ai.rs actually mentions that this "upgrade" actually sports a lower resolution than the last batch of EliteBooks, which is actually a let down. The good news here is that it is a 16:9 display this time around though.

I think USB 3.0 will take a very smooth transition from 2.0, and I am very content with its backwards compatible capabilities. It will be a nice step up from 2.0, and I am glad to be seeing it implemented on the new HP Elitebooks. The Widesceen addition is also a very nice improvement.

Yes! Backwards compatibility is definitely going to make the transition a great one.
