LG Unveils 5.9mm Thick 42 and 47-Inch LCD HDTVs

Labels: , ,

These are not OLEDs in disguise, but they are thin enough to seem like one. LG has just shown off the world's thinnest 42 and 47-inch LCD (LED-backlit) HDTV panels measuring in at just 5.9mm (0.23-inches) thick. "A proprietary light guide sheet (LGS) was used to spread the backlighting out across the rear surface of the LCD panel; this new technology cut the thickness of a regular LGS by more than half." Maybe we should just keep developing LCDs, because the technology clearly has not peaked yet. Anyways, the new LCDs have: Full HD 1080p capabilities, LG's 120Hz anti-blur technology, 8ms response time, 80% color saturation, and 450 nits of brightness. The 42-inch model weighs just 6.1kg (13.42 pounds) and the 47-inch moel weighs just 7.3kg (16.06 pounds). LG never revealed the pricing or the release date, so we'll just have to wait to get our hands on these.
