Motorola's 10-Inch Android Tablet To Feature Verizon's FiOS TV

Labels: , , , , , ,

According to Financial Times, some more information about Motorola's upcoming Android tablet will have something that you may want. We were just reminded that said tablet could be running Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" last week and it could also hit Verizon this November. Apparently, the 10-inch tablet will also have access to Verizon's FiOS TV which would be great news for both Motorola and Verizon in terms of sales. Unfortunately, that's all the rumour states but they do confirm that the tablet will be hitting the carrier in early Fall - possibly earlier than November.

Cricket Releases the BlackBerry Curve 8530 For $280 Sans Contract

Labels: , , , ,

It took Cricket USA a while but they have finally released the BlackBerry Curve 8530 smartphone and it's available for $279.99. As usual, this is the contract-free price and the carrier's unlimited plan will cost you $60 monthly if that's what you want from them. Of course, this is kind of late seeing how the Curve 3G (9300) will be hitting the market in a couple of weeks. Cricket also wants to remind you that the Kyocera Zio will be hitting them shortly so you can look out for that one. If you're still interested then you can check out the 8530 on Cricket's website here.

HTC Glacier Set To Be a High-End Smartphone According To Benchmarks

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Back in May we heard about three HTC smartphones that would be hitting the market soon: LED, Vision, and Glacier. We still don't know anything about any of the three smartphones but you can count on the Glacier being a high-end smartphone. According to the GLBenchmark database it got a pretty high score but comes just below the Samsung (M110S) Galaxy S along with the Compal NAZ-10 and the MSI Harmony - the last two products are actually Tegra 2-based tablets. This smartphone should be hitting T-Mobile sometime in the future but who knows exactly what it is.

Update: GSM Arena Blog has pointed out that the Glacier will definitely be running Android OS (sorry WinPho 7 fans) and they've also mentioned that a lot of people are mentioning that this smartphone could be running a Qualcomm dual-core CPU. However, they don't buy it so it's really all guess work right now. Other sources are saying that this could be T-Mobile's Project Emerald.

Labels: , , , , , , ,

We already know that Bell is going to launch the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant and it looks like some stores are starting to get their dummy units. This is one of the best smartphones to hit a Canadian carrier and will go head-to-head with the iPhone 4 along with Telus' upcoming HTC Desire. This smartphone packs a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5MP AF camera with 720p HD video recording, a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, WiFi / Bluetooth / aGPS support, and Android 2.1 with the Touchwiz UI (upgradeable to version 2.2).

WIND Mobile's First Android Phone Will Be the Mid-End Huawei U8100

Labels: , , , , ,

If you live in Canada and you love WIND Mobile then you should probably keep your eye out for another handset that will be hitting the carrier. This will be WIND's first Android device and it'll be the mid-end Huawei U8100. This handset packs a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, a 3.2MP camera, and WiFi support. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a slide-out [physical] QWERTY keyboard so it'll be just about impossible to type on the virtual QWERTY.

BlackBerry Torch Gets Official and Brings OS 6.0 With It, Hits AT&T On August 12th For $199

Labels: , , , , ,

At RIM's event this morning, they of course announced the arrival of the BlackBerry Torch (9800) and their OS 6.0. The smartphone itself has just gotten official and I think the best thing about OS 6.0 is the inclusion of their new WebKit browser. Of course, there are other things that OS 6.0 offers like integrated socials feeds from Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. Thankfully, RIM has also decided to use a standard multitouch display over their SurePress touchscreens (found on the Storm 2 and the original Storm). Anyways, the stuff about the new OS below is from Electronista, while the spec sheet is thanks to Unwired View because I'm too lazy to type them out again - they're exactly what I mentioned this morning. This smartphone will be available on AT&T starting on August 12th and it'll cost you $199.99 on a 2-year contract. No word on the Canadian release yet.

Update: According to Slash Gear, the Torch will be coming to Vodafone UK. The "Coming Soon" page isn't up yet but it should be in the near future.

Update: Mobile Syrup has just pointed out that the Torch will be coming to Telus in Canada. That is all.

Update: Another Mobile Syrup post has just mentioned that the Torch will also be hitting Virgin Mobile in Canada. Where's Rogers in all this?

Update: Engadget Mobile has just mentioned that Globe and Mail said that the three major carriers (Rogers, Bell, Telus) in Canada will be launching the Torch. On a separate confirmation, Rogers (here) has said that it's coming soon.

Update: According to Slash Gear, there's another carrier you can add to the list and it's Orange UK. They just tweeted it here.

The new OS also enables syncing music over Wi-Fi rather than just using the Media Sync conduit app with iTunes or Windows Media Player. Messaging fans are served by a new version of BlackBerry Messenger that supports up to 10 simultaneous people and locations. The phone is the first BlackBerry to finally have App World already pre-installed, catching up with access to a built-in store much like Android and iPhone devices have had since 2008. Previous models had to download the app afterwards.

Motorola Glam (XT800) Gets Announced In Korea, Hitting SK Telecom

Labels: , , , , , ,

In Korea, Motorola has just launched the Glam XT800 - another Android phone from the company. We can't get enough of Android so here's another one that you can pick up if you're interested. The Glam features a 3.7-inch touchscreen display (480 x 854 resolution), GPS, WiFi with DLNA support, an HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 5MP AF camera with D1 (480 x 720) recording capabilities, 256MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM, Android 2.1, and a TI OMAP 550MHz CPU. The specs are actually not that bad for a mid-end handset but the name just screams out that this one is directed at girls. I wouldn't really want to be caught with a phone with the name Glam. Anyways, this handset will be available later this month on SK Telecom.

BlackBerry 9800 Hits the FCC, Just In Time For Announcement - AT&T's Site Goes Up Early and Leaks Spec Sheet

Labels: , , , , , ,

Something juicy has just hit the FCC and it's coming from the RIM camp. It's the BlackBerry 9800 and it's got things like WiFi b/g/n / Bluetooth support, GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850 / 1900, UMTS II (1900), V (850) bands and GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900 / 1800 MHz, UMTS I (2100) for those overseas. This will be hitting AT&T and will also be available in Canada (on Rogers at least). Since I woke up a bit late, the announcement will be in mere minutes. The RIM event starts at 11AM EST (which is in 1 minute at the time or writing). Check out the FCC filing here.

Update: Boy Genius has just spotted the pictures below on AT&T's website (here). It'll be called the BlackBerry Torch - as rumoured. The spec sheet was actually up on the website and it includes a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with a 360 x 480 resolution, Bluetooth 2.1 / WiFi b/g/n, 512MB of RAM, 512MB of flash storage, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot (4GB card included), a 5MP camera, a 1,300mAh battery, and the BB OS 6.0. Check out Boy Genius for a couple more pictures.

Samsung Galaxy U and Galaxy K On Their Way To South Korea, Sporting 3.7-Inch AMOLED Displays

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Two more Samsung Galaxy's are headed to South Korea and they both seem like viable alternates to the Galaxy S. Both of the models, the Galaxy U and the Galaxy K, are sporting 3.7-inch AMOLED displays made by the company and the letter stands for the carrier that they'll be going to. Thankfully, these smartphones are said to be available in the next month or two (September at the latest - unless something goes wrong). For comparison's sake, the Galaxy U is pictured below beside the Galaxy S which is on the right.

Samsung has just announced another touchscreen handset in South Korea. Dubbed the Nori (SHW-A220), the handset will sport "eight unique characters adhesive films to help create a distinct identity" and will be available in beige, pink, and blue when it launches. The Nori features a 3-inch touchscreen display with a 240 x 400 resolution, a 3.2MP camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, 3G / WiFi support, GPS / Bluetooth 2.1, a T-DMB TV tuner, a microSD card slot, and a 1,000mAh battery. This will be available for 600,000 won ($511 USD), which definitely seems expensive.

White Samsung Galaxy S and Nokia N8 Hitting Spain Soon For €499

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

We've all seen the Samsung Galaxy S but I already know that not everyone wants their devices in black. Thankfully, it looks like Spain will be getting a white model of the smartphone and it'll cost €499 ($657 USD) unlocked. The other handset that will be available in the near future is the Nokia N8 which will sport the same price tag. Both of these smartphones seem a bit expensive but it's a small price to pay if you don't want to pay expensive data fees - but without a data plan then what would be the point for these phones?
