Dell Streak / Mini 5 MID Hitting Carphone Warehouse, O2 UK On June 4th

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

Carphone Warehouse has just announced that they'll be launching the Dell Streak aka the Mini 5 MID. This Android 1.6 based tablet sports a 5-inch WVGA touchscreen display and should get an OTA update in the future - hopefully to Android 2.1 or even 2.2 "Froyo". Inside you'll find a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a microSD card slot, a 16GB card in the box, and on the outside you'll find a front-facing VGA camera along with a 5MP AF camera on the back with a dual-LED flash. The launch will apparently be later this week.

Update: According to Engadget, it's just been confirmed that O2 UK will be launching the Dell Mini 5 in early June. And, of course, it'll also be hitting the US later this Summer - whenever that is.

Update: Slash Gear has mentioned that it'll be hitting O2 UK on June 4th.

Motorola XT502 "Greco" Spotted at the Bluetooth SIG, Another Android-Based Handset

Labels: , , , ,

All the buzz seems to be around the Motorola DROID Shadow right now but Motorola has something else up their sleeve. The XT502, which could be called the Greco, was just spotted at the Bluetooth SIG (here) and it'll feature a touchscreen display, quad-band GSM / tri-band UMTS connectivity, WiFi b/g / aGPS / Bluetooth support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB 2.0 port, a camera on the back (megapixels unknown), and Android. It's unknown what version it'll be running right now, but I assume that it'll be version 2.1. It may not be as high-end as the Shadow but it's still something to keep your eye out for.

LG Shows Off World's Largest UHD 3DTV at SID, That's 84-Inches With a 3,840 x 2,160 Resolution

Labels: , , ,

At SID, some pretty gigantic and fascinating displays are being shown off and here is LG's. This is said to be the world's largest UHD 3DTV. It measures 84-inches and sports a magnificent 3,840 x 2,160 resolution. Sadly, the picture doesn't do any justice for LG's hard work. Although not pictured, LG is also showing off a "liquid lens" 3DTV that you won't need glasses for so that's great news.

AMD-Powered Acer Aspire 721 Netbook Hits Amazon For $429.99

Labels: , , , , , ,

Two weeks ago, Acer unveiled a couple of AMD-powered netbooks and one of them has just hit the Amazon US website. This being the Acer Aspire One 721 netbook that packs an 11.6-inch display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution along with an AMD Athlon Neo K125 CPU. Other specs include ATI Radeon HD 4225 graphics, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB HDD, a 1.3MP webcam, WiFi b/g/n, HDMI / VGA ports, a 6-cell battery, and Windows 7 Home Premium as an OS. Sadly, the battery life will only last you 2 to 3 hours, which is quite pathetic to be honest. The price seems to be marked at $429.99 (here) but the release date isn't mentioned - it clearly states that it's "temporarily out of stock." Look out for it soon.

Verizon's Motorola DROID Shadow "Found" In the Wild, No Busting Down Doors Here

Labels: , , , , , ,

A couple of days ago we heard about the upcoming new Motorola DROID that will hit Verizon and it has just been found in the wild - similar to the next-gen iPhone. Someone "found" the handset in a Verizon gym in Washington - what a coincidence, eh? Anyways, some of the specs seem to be confirmed, it's definitely packing a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, an 8MP camera, an HDMI port, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, and 16GB of internal storage. I'm also pretty sure that there's a microSD card slot on this handset too. This is looking like it really is the Motorola Shadow.

With Android 2.2 "Froyo" likely being pre-loaded on this handset, Apple better have something good up their sleeve at WWDC in a couple of weeks.

Amazon Now Shipping the $199 Archos 7 Home Tablet

Labels: , , ,

Well, so much for that June release date. Amazon is now shipping the Android 1.5 based Archos 7 Home Tablet. Sadly, it's rocking a resistive touchscreen so maybe you'll be better off with something else - maybe waiting for the Dell Mini 5 / Streak MID. Of course, this tablet is only $199.99 so maybe, just maybe, it's actually worth the price.

Viliv Prime P3 PMP Dual-Boots Android and Windows CE, Pretty Awesome

Labels: , , , , , ,

First shown off at CES earlier this year, Viliv has officially announced the Prime P3. This PMP features a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, 720p HD video playback, a microSDHC card slot, a microUSB port, WiFi support, an accelerometer, and an 800MHz ARM Cortex CPU. The best part about all of this is that this PMP is capable of dual-booting Android 2.1 and Windows CE 6.0. The price and release date wasn't mentioned but the largest amount of internal storage you'll get inside this baby is 32GB - plus whatever you put in the card slot. They should've just turned this PMP into a smartphone!
