Android-Based Spring Design Alex E-Book Reader Gets Tested By the FCC

Labels: , , , , ,

Look what has just shown up at the FCC. It's the Spring Design Alex e-book reader. In case you forgot, this one's like the Barnes & Noble Nook. Not much left for me to say, so check out the filing here.

Project Pink Pictured Again, Launching On Verizon As Early As April 20th; Headed to Vodafone Too

Labels: , , , , ,

Just when you thought the old renders looked bad, these are even worse. The Pure (above) seems to have a crappy-looking 4-row slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The size of the touchscreen display is unknown right now. Below you see the Turtle which also looks pretty bad. The Pure and Turtle will likely be headed to Vodafone overseas, while Verizon will be getting the CDMA (Lion and Pride, respectively) models of each phone. These are without a doubt targeted at the younger audiences. Apparently, they could launch as early as April 20th.

ZTE Unveils A Bunch Of Their Upcoming Devices, Most Running Android

Labels: , , ,

ZTE has just shown off a bunch of their latest phones and they're all running Android. Sadly, they'll all be running version 1.6. First up is what you see above, the ZTE Blade. It's packing a 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen display, a digital compass, WiFi / GPS / Bluetooth support, GSM / UMTS connectivity, and an FM radio.

What you see above is another handset, the ZTE Racer and it packs a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, 3G connectivity, WiFi / GPS support, a digital compass, and Android 1.6. There are a bunch of other handsets from them as well - some of them actually looking like fake Chinese phones.

This one's the ZTE Mercury, which looks like an HTC Hero. This one comes with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with a 320 x 480 resolution, Bluetooth 2.0 / aGPS support, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

This one's the ZTE EQ^2 which sports a weird look with a touchscreen display and some touch-sensitive buttons.

Above is the ZTE Smile, which looks quite similar to the Helio Ocean. This one comes packing with a 2.8-inch touchscreen display with a 240 x 400 resolution, a G Sensor, and WiFi / Bluetooth support.

The ZTE Cute resembles the design of a Nokia N97 Mini with a 2.8-inch touchscreen display with a 240 x 400 resolution, Bluetooth 2.0 support, a 2MP camera with a flash, and an FM radio.

This one's the ZTE Valentina which packs a 3-inch QVGA touchscreen display and WiFi / Bluetooth 2.0 support.

They also showed off this MID, the ZTE G+^2 which has some gaming functionalities reminds me of what a PSP Phone could look like.

Sprint Getting Red BlackBerry Curve 8530 On March 14th?

Labels: , , , ,

The latest rumour is that Sprint is getting a red colour of the BlackBerry Curve 8530 really soon. Apparently, this smartphone colour will be launching on March 14th. This would be a new colour for the US but not so much for Canada. If you live in Canada you can already scoop up the red colour on Telus.

LG VS740 Passes the FCC, Likely Headed To Verizon Or Sprint. That's All We Know

Labels: , , ,

It looks like a new LG phone has just been spotted at the FCC (here), the LG VS740. This handset has EV-DO connectivity and WiFi / Bluetooth support. This handset will likely launch on either Verizon or Sprint so look out for this. Unfortunately, we don't know anything else about it - not even the OS.

i1 To Be the Motorola Opus One Android iDEN Handset, Passes the FCC

Labels: , , , ,

Remember how Motorola was preparing an Android phone in the future that was iDEN-capable? Well, it looks like it could be called the i1, or at least, that's what it's called internally - FCC filing here. It's packing Bluetooth 2.1 along with WiFi but that's all we really know about it so far. I'm pretty sure it'll feature a touchscreen display because it's pretty rare for an Android device not to have a touchscreen. This handset will likely be headed to Sprint Direct Connect in the US.

Update: According to new news, Engadget has just mentioned that the i1 has been confirmed to be the Opus One.

T-Mobile USA To Launch 21Mbps HSPA+ Network On March 14th?

Labels: , ,

March 14th could be a big day for T-Mobile USA. Apparently, the aforementioned carrier could be planning to launch their HSPA+ network to some markets (rumoured to include Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and Philadelphia) along with a new webConnect Rocket (speedy internet access on a stick). If this is true then it could be just 9 days away until you're surfing the web even faster - at 21Mbps.

Acer Unveils D241H Monitor With "Mini OS", Media Player Functionalities, and WiFi

Labels: , ,

Acer has just shown off their latest monitor and this one's looking pretty impressive. The Acer D241H monitor packs a 24-inch display with WiFi, basic internet / media player capabilities, widgets, some USB 2.0 ports, a memory card reader, a LAN port, and a wireless keyboard. Sadly, it's not really an all in one PC but it does have it's own "mini OS." It's not packing a touchscreen display, but it does have some pretty nice features. The price and release details haven't been mentioned yet.

Microsoft Courier Official, Launching In H2 2010; Pictures and Videos Galore!

Labels: , , , , , ,

Coincidence? Apple announced the iPad availability this morning and Microsoft has just confirmed that the Courier is a real product. Closed, the dual-screen "digital journal" or tablet of theirs is said to be under an inch thick, just over a pound, and not much larger than a 5 x 7 photo. This means that both of these displays could be around 7-9 inches (I believe).

The Courier looked pretty impressive back in , but it has slightly toned down since then. The OS is said to be based on Windows CE 6 which is the same base as the Zune HD, Project Pink, and Windows Phone 7. Inside there'll be Nvidia's Tegra 2 chipset inside which should be pretty darn impressive. The UI appears to be pen-based but it should be fine if you use your fingers (not the best though). There's said to be a built-in camera and a headphone jack for your media needs. This tablet / e-book reader is supposedly set for a Q3 / Q4 launch. Visit any of the links below to find out even more information.

Check out the videos below. The UI / OS looks quite complicated, to be honest.

Motorola DEXT Exclusively Headed To Canada's Bell Mobility

Labels: , , , , , ,

We now know that the Backflip is headed to Telus and today we're hearing that Bell will be launching the Motorola DEXT. It has its fair share of social integration, thanks to MOTOBLUR (over top of Android 1.5). It's also got a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a 3.1-inch touchscreen display along with a 5MP camera.

Does this basically confirm that the Quench will be launching on Rogers? Possibly.

Apple Patents Using [USB and FireWire] Ports As Cooling Vents

Labels: , , , , ,

Here's a pretty interesting patent from the Apple camp. They have just patented utilizing the USB and FireWire ports as a vent. That's pretty clever seeing how they wouldn't need to make extra holes to cool their notebooks down. We'll see if Apple includes this into one of their future systems in the future because that MacBook Pro refresh would look pretty good anytime now...

RIM Looking To Launch Pearl 9100 With SureType and Full QWERTY Keyboard Option

Labels: , ,

Apparently, RIM could be looking to have two models of their next Pearl (9100). One, of course, includes the SureType QWERTY keyboard and the other would be a full QWERTY keyboard. This would be pretty interesting since their Pearls are pretty skinny so it'd be hard to type on it if you had fully developed aka large hands. You can go to the link below to voice your opinion and vote for your favourite option. I wonder how well it would work.

Sony Reportedly Working On PlayStation Infused Smartphone and Tablet

Labels: , ,

Apparently, Sony is looking to launch a smartphone that will compete with the iPhone. That's not all though, we're hearing that they'll be releasing devices in the future that will compete with their iPod Touch and iPad as well. These devices will be Sony branded (not Sony Ericsson branded) even the smartphone. Let's hope this really is the PSP Phone because what else could it really be? I'm really excited at the tablet that Sony will be cooking off although I still don't see me buying a tablet in my future. Of course, the rumour states that all of these devices will be PlayStation-capable so there'll be some heavy gaming on here.
