Andy Rubin Shows Off "Honeycomb" On Motorola Tablet Prototype, Will Launch In 2011

Labels: , , , , ,

Google's Andy Rubin may have made version 2.3 "Gingerbread" official along with the Nexus S yesterday but that wasn't all he showed off yesterday. While I was busy working at Best Buy he showed off a Motorola tablet prototype (possibly the Stingray?) running on version 3.0 'Honeycomb" of the Android OS. Specs aren't set in stone right now but there's reportedly a front-facing camera (for video chatting), a "dual core 3D processor", and a Nvidia processor. Rubin mentioned that this will be available in 2011 and Honeycomb should actually hit smartphones as well since the OS is optimized for both form factors.

Update: According to Android and Me, Rubin has confirmed that the prototype is known as the Motorola Everest - possibly just a codename right now - and it's indeed packing a Nvidia Tegra 2 inside.
