Verizon To Phase Out the DROID Incredible Soon? -- Probably Not.

Labels: , , , , ,

Someone has just spotted this [somewhat] bad news. The DROID Incredible has just made the phase-out list at Verizon which could make some people sad. The Incredible was a great device, but it's been plagued by shortages and it took a while for it to get rooted. On to other things though because the DROID X and the DROID 2 are on the way so you'll be able to cheer up in the near future. The DROID X is slightly larger than the DROID Incredible but it'll likely sport a 1GHz OMAP CPU which is slightly faster than the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU.

Update: According to a random tipster (commenter below), the Droid Incredible actually won't be phased out and is expected to stay on Verizon until Q2 2011. They also mentioned that the smartphone will be getting an update to version 2.2 "Froyo" on July 9th.

You and everyone else who are circulating that picture are complete idiots.

First off, the Moto Droid 2 is still an inferior product than the DI. Second, the DX only has the advantage of being larger and supporting 720p playback. Granted, the OMAP benchmarks at slightly higher speeds (we're talking 30-50mhz)but MOTOBlur also uses up significantly more system resources than HTC Sense while at the same time offering much less functionality. So the DX is still not as fluid as the DI.

Coming from the Verizon Wireless Orange County Regional Manager, I will tell you the DI is not being phased out or put on any clearance list. What that picture represents is the o;d SKU that didn't ship with the 2gb MicroSD. We expect the DI to be one of our flagship devices until around Q2 of 2011.

Oh, and lastly...Froyo coming to the DI Friday July 9th. But you didn;t hear it from me.

Lol, sorry about that! I figured that it's definitely way too early for the DROID Incredible to get phased out since it's only been out for less than two months. Just a question, with the Froyo upgrade will the DI be getting the rumoured WiFi 802.11n support as well? Btw, thanks for the info!
