OLPC XO-3 Tablet To Feature Marvell Chips, Android, and Will Cost $75

Labels: , , ,

OLPC has just signed a deal with Marvell with their upcoming XO-3 tablet. This is actually great and shocking news because they are now going to kick off this tablet later this year - much earlier than the expected 2012 launch date. The bad news it likely won't be exactly what they thought it would be and it might not look like the impossibly thin render that you see on the left. When the XO-3 was first introduced they said that it would have an 8.5 x 11 inch touchscreen, a water-resistant case, and inductive charging. They might be able to pull through with what they were hoping for, but we'll really just have to wait and see for the big unveiling whenever that is. Last we heard, this will be priced at $100, so hopefully that doesn't budge.

Update: According to Crunch Gear, OLPC is aiming to price this tablet at just $75. It'll be running on the Android OS, the body will be plastic, and there'll be a "dual-mode screen". This tablet will be making an appearance at CES next year.
