Acer Shows Off 7-Inch Android Tablet, Unveils the 6-Inch LumiReader As Well

Labels: , , , , , , ,

This morning, Acer's CEO, Gianfranco Lanci, took the stage to show off [briefly] a 7-inch Android tablet of theirs that could do pretty well as an e-book reader. It does look like the display is coloured, so it won't have days of battery life. What you will find is a touchscreen display, physical QWERTY keyboard on the front and integrated 3G. This is scheduled to hit the market in Q4 of this year with an unknown price.

Another Acer tablet was unveiled today but this is definitely more of an e-book reader. Named the LumiReader, it looks quite familiar to the device Acer's CEO is holding on stage in the above picture but there are some differences. This is actually sporting a 6-inch monochrome e-ink display, a QWERTY keyboard, WiFi with DLNA support, 3G connectivity, 2GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, and an ISBN scanner. Acer has also mentioned that they signed a deal with Barnes & Noble in the US, Libri.de in Germany, and Founder in China. You'll be able to browse their respective bookstores and purchase whatever you want. This is going to be available in Q3 of this year - which starts in July - but the price is still unknown.
