Samsung's ARM Plans For the Future Leaks Out, Aquila 1.2GHz Quad-Core Cortex A9 In 2013

Labels: , , ,

More leaks and this time it's from Samsung and it's regarding their future ARM processor usage. Later this year we should be expecting the Taurus, a 1GHz (S5PV210) Cortex A8 chip. Either late this year or early next year there's the Mercury, which is the Cortex A5 clocked at 600MHz and should find a home in some lower-priced handsets / PMPs / MIDs. The Orion is expected early in 2011 and it's the Cortex A9 clocked at 800MHz. Later on in 2011 we should expect the Pegasus which is the Cortex A9 which is clocked at a speedier 1GHz.

In early 2012 it starts to get interesting. First up for that year is the Hercules, which is a dual-core Cortex A9 at 1GHz. There's also the Venus which is expected in 2012 - 2013 which is dual-core Cortex A5 600MHz and the Draco which is a dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex A9 chip. Of course, the best one is coming in 2012 / 2013, codenamed the Aquila which will be a quad-core Cortex A9 at 1.2GHz.

This leak also tells us that Samsung plans to launch some netbooks in the future with ARM processors instead of the traditional Intel CPUs. These, I suppose, will be cheaper when they hit the shelves. If Apple doesn't buy ARM, everything should work out as planned - likely with slight delays.
