LG GR700 Passes FCC, Touchscreen Display With a Numeric Keypad

Labels: , , ,

Another LG handset has just passed the FCC and it's the GR700. This handset is a slider that features: 3G connectivity (perfect for AT&T), a 240 x 400 resolution touchscreen display (likely 3-inches), and a numeric keypad. Something tells me that they should've put a QWERTY keypad there instead of a numeric one. Anyways, that's actually all we know about this handset right now. Check out the official FCC filing here.

There's not much else to say here, but that does mean that the official launch date [of the Motorola Droid] could be next week.

Google Launching Their Own Phone Running Android, Launching This Year? Just a Rumour.

Labels: , , ,

According to the latest rumour with not that much fuel behind it - it's coming from TheStreet.com - Google is working on a new Google Phone. And no, I'm not talking about a Google-branded phone like the T-Mobile G1 / HTC Dream. This will actually be a cheap unlocked phone aka a handset that won't be high-end per say. It'll likely be running Android and we'll see it by the end of the year if it's real.

Google Planning To Launch Music Service Soon, Dubbed "Google Audio" For Now -- Launching October 28th?

Labels:

It looks like Google is also looking to make a new service dubbed Google Audio for now. This will likely be in competition with Microsoft's Zune 4.0 and, more importantly, Apple's iTunes. Right now there are no details on this service, but I'm definitely excited to see what it will be. However, it'll be hard to leave Zune 4.0.

Update: According to Slash Gear, Google may be looking to release this service as early as October 28th, which is a week from now.

Update: According to Tech Crunch, they've just got the scoop on the first couple of photos of the said service, check it out above. I don't believe it will be software - it'll be more like an online music service (like iLike).

Google’s partners in the venture are tipped to be LaLa and iLike, the latter of which was recently acquired by MySpace.  The social networking site has streaming rights agreements with all four of the major music labels, all of whom would probably love another opportunity to persuade people to buy tracks rather than listen to them online.
As well as offering streaming and download links, Google Audio will flag up any related content, presumably including YouTube video and anything else related from the search giant’s database.  LaLa and iLike have already announced a launch event for October 28th, billed as hosted by them “& others”.  It will be interesting to see whether the service gets integrated with Android; as our own columnist Michael Gartenberg suggested earlier on today, one of the key elements holding Android back is the absence of a solid media download system integrated into the smartphone platform.

Something is telling me that this should've been made into a phone. Anyways, check out the link below for a few more pictures. I've also posted a video of it below.

European Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 Passes the FCC, Headed To Vodafone

Labels: , , , , , , ,

It looks like the FCC has granted the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 access to the world. This handset has everything you'd expect, so WinMo 6.5 is on-board and so is an optical trackpad. This X2 doesn't have US 3G since it's the European model. This handset is expected to get launched on Vodafone pretty soon - November 6th if the leaks are true. Check out the official listing here.

Update: According to WMExperts, the Tilt 2 is also just $149.99 on Amazon here. It's not as cheap as LetsTalk, but it's definitely cheaper than in AT&T stores.

Official Photos and Specs of the Android-Based Philips V808

The official specs are nothing new. The Philips V808 handset looks like it will have: a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display, a 3.2MP camera, GPS support, GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, a 1,000 mAh battery, a microSD card slot, and the Android OS. Above and below are some official pictures of this handset that is destined for China - likely China Mobile.

US Cellular Gearing Up To Launch the HTC Touch Pro 2!

Labels: , , , , ,

It looks like another carrier will be getting the HTC Touch Pro 2 and it's US Cellular. As you can see in the picture above, it's everything we know and love - even though the price tag isn't really lovely. This handset will have WinMo 6.5 pre-installed, but it doesn't look like it will have a 3.5mm headphone jack. That's definitely sad news for some of you music nerds out there. Check it out on their website here.

Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2 Dummy Unit Spotted At Best Buy

Labels: , , , , ,

The title basically says it all, but it looks like the Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2 has just been spotted at a local Best Buy. I can't seem to spot the Verizon logo on the Storm 2, but I guess they don't put it on their dummy models? Meh, release should be anytime soon... Like Best Buy says, it's "Worth the Wait."
