Microsoft "Courier" To Sport Dual 7-Inch Multi-Touchscreens

Labels: , ,

It looks like that rumour we heard was true, Microsoft is really working on a new dual-screen booklet / notebook kind of thing. I assume the codename is "Courier" right now, but this does looks pretty interesting. This booklet sports two 7-inch displays that can fold into a book. And yes, it has support for multi-touch gestures and you can also use a stylus - but who would want to? This booklet supposedly has a camera on the back - and hopefully it'll also have one on the front.

Apparently though, the UI is "complex." It looks to me like Microsoft could be paving the way for Apple's iTablet to blow them out of the water - at least that's what I think and I'm not even a big Apple fan. The design is fairly interesting though. Could this be a sign of the future textbooks for school?

You can check out this Gizmodo link for a video on the Microsoft Courier.

Update: Just in case I never made it clear, this is a real device and it's in "late prototype" stage right now, so Microsoft did a great job keeping it a secret. Unfortunately, we don't know when or how much it will launch for right now. Hopefully it'll launch right before the holidays.

PSP Go Appearing Exclusively At Sony Style Stores

Labels: , ,

According to Sony Insider, they have spotted the PSP Go at Sony Style stores. In case they're not in stores yet, apparently they will be in Sony Style stores exclusively starting tomorrow. Check out what they thought below.

“Oh my, I see an improved Mylo device I have back in my VAIO Dooney & Bourke messenger bag.” The engineers who stood behind the design of Mylo definitely shared some ideas with PSP hardware team in one of the backrooms. First thing that attracted me was the brightness of the screen (and I so smell the next gen PSP to have an OLED display), it was pretty crisp too and I did not notice the smaller size of the LCD at all compared to its older brother. The UI was fluid – something we are used to already, however I really liked the way you can switch between the Home menu to the screen saver menu. I asked if that same functionality will be ported to the older PSPs, however was told that it would stay exclusive to PSPgo. Reps also had a couple of games like Gran Turismo for PSP available to showcase.

Intel Launches Atom Developer Program, App Store On the Way

Labels: , , , ,

Apple started it all with their App Store and I give a lot of credit to them for doing that. It looks like even Intel is going to start their own app store in the future. They are kicking off their "Intel Atom Developer Program" which will "unlock a netbook's potential while opening a new sales and distribution channel." Those are just fancy words for an incoming app store.

Intel Shows Off Moblin 2.1 At IDF, Perfect For Multi-Tasking On Mobile Phones

Labels: , , , , , ,

Like we heard last week, Intel has just shown off Moblin v2 - more specifically Moblin 2.1. The good news here is that this new OS is capable of running on most mobile devices, including phones. Engadget got a chance to look at Moblin 2.1 on an unnamed Compal MID and an Acer netbook. But, they weren't allowed to touch it so that definitely sucks. I guess it was just a preview then.

The Moblin OS will be capable of running on mobile phones and will have social-integration and a "panels-based navigation system" which will allow you to run multiple applications at once. Enjoy two more shots of the new Moblin below.

Intel Shows Off Notebook Prototype With 3 Multi-Touch OLED Displays

Labels: , , , , , ,

Intel has just unveiled their latest notebook that will definitely be expensive, but it'll definitely be awesome. This new notebook concept / prototype by Intel has three (yes, three) OLED displays right above the keyboard. "They can be used to play media without taking up space on the main display but can also interact with each other: a video queued in one can be played on the other. Content can also be dragged to and from the sub-displays as well as the main LCD." We don't know if / when this will hit the shelves, but if you're really interested you should start saving your money now.

Intel Shows Off Pine Trail Atom CPU / GPU Hybrids At IDF

Labels: , , , , , ,

At IDF 2009, Intel has just announced their Pine Trail CPU / GPU hybrids, which will be in some netbooks next year since it's part of Intel's Atom line-up. Unfortunately, all they showed off was some measly 480p resolution video, but Intel did mention that it does have 780p capabilities "if pushed". If you want 1080p playback it'll cost you about $30 more for the Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator.

Engadget also mentioned that they also showed off "demo machines running 32nm Arrandale chips, with Intel's Clear HD video playback system, and the next-gen Gulftown gaming chip, which has six cores and will slot right into your X58 mobo to provide more power than you possibly need sometime next year." Excited yet?

Samsung Go (N310) Netbook Hitting US Soon With 3G Integration

Labels: , , , ,

Samsung is finally looking to ship that Samsung Go (N310) netbook with 3G integration pretty soon. As of right now we don't know which carrier in the US will be carrying the 3G-equipped netbook, but it could be coming about a month from now. This means that it could be pre-installed with Windows 7 Starter Edition. With all of the netbooks having Nvidia's Ion nowadays, would this be something you'd be interested it? I know, I'm not. I'm going to have to play my StarCraft 2 on something.

Verizon Launching Redesigned Omnia II, Pictured

Labels: , , ,

Verizon is set to release the Samsung Omnia II and that should be of no surprise to anybody. Well, it looks like they won't be launching the same model that launched overseas. It'll look like the SCH-B900 that I just covered yesterday, except the Omnia II will, of course, be larger and have the original Omnia II specs. We've already seen the B7610 get a model change, so it's not entirely game-changing.

UMID Shows Off mbook M2, Release Expected This November With Windows 7

Labels: , , , , ,

The same makers of the UMID M1 have just churned out another MID, the mbook M2 - the direct successor to the M1. This photo above is the "pre-finalised prototype." The M2 has: a 1.2GHz or 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPUs, 1GB of RAM, and Windows 7. UMID is targeting a November release date for the M2 and it will only cost you $499 USD - for the base model I assume. Other changes from the M1 include: real ports (no need for those silly adapters), an optical mouse, and a screen that bends back just a little bit further.

Samsung Producing Two New 1GHz ARM CORTEX A8 CPUs For Mobile Devices

Labels: ,

Well, Samsung looks like they're really serious in the mobile game. On their way to overtake Nokia they have just introduced two new chips that will deliver awesome power "while reducing power consumption." They've introduced two new ARM CORTEX A8 1GHz CPUs - one of which we could see in the next iPhone. One of these chips are for phones and the other is for "larger mobile devices." Everything else you need to know it below, courtesy of Engadget Mobile.

Among the introductions are a pair of 1GHz ARM CORTEX A8 processors, one for phones and one for larger mobile devices, the former of which can be paired with Samsung's new 1Gb OneDRAM solution, and both of which can churn through 3D graphics while keeping power usage to a minimum. Other highlights include a 5 megapixel CMOS system on a chip camera, which can process 1080p at 30 fps, a 512Mb PRAM chip newly in production, and a mobile display driver with integrated capacitive touchscreen support. With samples of the processors out in December, and the camera trickling into the market Q1 of next year, we probably have a ways to wait for devices based on all this tech -- but boy are we prepped for it.

Alienware Gearing Up For Huge Announcement -- New m15x Notebook and X58 Desktop PC

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

At TGS, Alienware is prepping yet another announcement that will "shake the gaming world to its foundation." I don't know what that means, but I'm betting it has something to do with a new desktop PC (with new Core i7's?) or a new laptop already. Or, y'know, Alienware could be announcing their first gaming console. Okay fine, I think it'll be a desktop PC. What do you think?

Update: According to Engadget, Alienware could be announcing a new Area-51 m15x gaming laptop, which is a 15-inch version of their m17x, and a new Area-51 X58 desktop PC. We'll just have to see what these two products will bring to us tomorrow.
