Palm Pixi Packs a 600MHz CPU, Plus a Bit More

Labels: , , , ,

Last week we heard about the Palm Pixi and it was finally made official. Unfortunately, we didn't know the CPU, until now. I'll save you the harm of checking out the link below. Here's what Engadget had to say.

Thankfully, Qualcomm has now come out and clarified that situation so Palm doesn't have to, and detailed the complete specs for the MSM7627 chipset that powers the Pixi. The big news there is that the chipset packs two ARM cores on a single chip, including one dedicated 600MHz applications processor, and a separate 400MHz modem processor to offload some of the heavy lifting. Otherwise, the phone is said to pack a 200MHz, OpenGL 2.0-supporting GPU for some decent gaming capabilities, and a 320MHz application DSP to handle multimedia on the device, including full 30 fps WVGA video encoding and decoding.

Gaming on the Nokia N900 Using the TV Output, Shown on Video

Labels: , , , ,

Did you remember that the Nokia N900 had a TV output? No? Okay, well I didn't either. Below is - I believe - the first video of the N900 using its TV output to display gaming on your large TV at home. Unfortunately, the N900 only has 2 pre-installed games and Nokia's N-Gage game download service will not be available for the N900, so that is a big let down. The N900 may not pack the same graphics power as the 3G iPod Touch or the iPhone 3GS, but it does have a native resolution of 480 x 800.

New Palm App Catalog Pictured, Rollout Imminent

Labels: , , ,

What you see above could be the first look at the revamped Palm App Catalog. There's not much to say here, because Engadget Mobile summed it up best. By the way, this new App Catalog should be rolling out to users very soon, since Palm did mentioned a "mid-September" release date for this.

Major new features include the aforementioned support for credit card payments, some sort of tag cloud that appears to show up when searching, and integrated app management, while many other screens have been gently tweaked from the early release Pre owners are using today.

LG GB270's Looks Are Completely Customizable and Cheap

Labels: ,

Believe it or not but these two handsets are actually the same phone. It really is. It's the LG GB270. You can swap the covers of this phone and it will change the colour, the d-pad, the bezel shape, the external lanyard in the top right corner, and even the keypad. Unfortunately, that's the best thing about this handset.

Other specs include: tri-band GPRS connectivity, a VGA camera, Bluetooth 1.2 support, and a microSD card slot. This handset is already available if you look hard enough and it should be pretty cheap.

We'll just have to see exactly what INQ has in store for us since they are promising "cool things."
