Android-Based Archos A5 MID Priced and Pictured in Black, Launch Imminent

Labels: , , , , , ,

The Android-based Archos 5 MID that is expected to get officially announced on September 15th has just been pictured in black. We saw it in white last week, but I personally like black devices better. The Archos A5 is expected to launch for $294 USD for a 16GB SSD, $370 for a 32GB SSD, and $420 for a 500GB HDD.

The A5 is rumored to have 720p video output, but like the Zune HD, you'll have to buy a dock, and the A5's is a pricey one with DVR functionality at $130.

The 14-inch X420 notebook reportedly has: an Intel Pentium Dual-Core 1.3GHz SU2700 CPU, integrated Intel GMA X4500M graphics, 3GB of RAM, a 250GB HDD, no optical drive, and this weighs 1.7kg.

The other notebook is the 15-inch X520 notebook that reportedly has: an Intel SU2700 1.3GHz CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 320GB HDD, a 6-cell battery, Windows Vista Home Premium, and this weighs 2.09kg. So much for it launching with Windows Vista - at least that's the latest word.

First Samsung I5700 Galaxy Lite Picture Surfaces, Available Next Month in France as the Galaxy Spica

Labels: , , , , ,

We've been hearing about the Samsung I5700 Galaxy Lite for the past couple of weeks now. So, what you see above is rumoured to be the first photo of the Galaxy Lite. This handset will be running Android and will also have WiFi / 3G / GPS support which doesn't make it as "low-end" as I thought it was going to be. I'm now guessing that the camera is a 3.2MP sensor and the display isn't OLED. According to the rumours, the Galaxy Lite will be available as early as next month, so we'll see what happens.

Update: According to GSM Arena, this handset will be launching on Bouygues Telecom in France as the Samsung Galaxy Spica. This handset will have WiFi / GPS support and, apparently, has a faster processor than the original Galaxy. It's expected to rock the same 800MHz CPU as the Omnia II, but I believe that's unconfirmed.

HP iPAQ K3 Obsidian Passes the FCC, AT&T Ready

Labels: , , , ,

It's been a while since we've heard anything about the HP iPAQ K3 Obsidian, but it's just been spotted at the FCC. The iPAQ K3 has been equipped with 850 and 1900MHz bands, so it's definitely headed to AT&T - and yes, the red circle does say "AT&T SKU" which is another giveaway. I don't know if this will hit Canada yet, but if it does it will probably hit Rogers. You can check out the official FCC filing here.

Lenovo and Acer Launching Google Chrome OS Netbooks This Month With Nvidia Tegra?

Labels: , , , , ,

According to the latest rumour, both Lenovo and Acer will be launching netbooks running on Nvidia's Tegra chipset with Google's Chrome OS. To keep the rumour mill spinning, these netbooks could be hitting shelves as early as this month. Could it be true? All we can really do is wait.

I could've sworn that Google expected Chrome OS to be pushed out next year when they first announced it, but maybe it will be available this year. This month seems too soon.

Asia Getting Intel ULV-Equipped BenQ S35 and S43 Joybooks, Hopefully US In the Future Too

Labels: , , , , ,

BenQ is hopping on the Intel ULV bandwagon and all for the good reasons. BenQ has just announced the 13.3-inch S35 Joybook and the 14-inch S43 Joybook. These two notebooks have your choice of CPUs, a single-core SU3500, a dual-core SU7300 or the old-school Celeron 723 / 743 CPUs. According to BenQ, the 1.4GHz SU3500 CPU with the default battery will give you more than five hours of battery life and the eight-cell battery option will give you over 11 hours of battery life. eBay Sells 65% of Skype Stake For $1.9 Billion -- Not the Worst Transaction of the Decade After All

Labels: ,

Later today, eBay plans to officially announce that they are selling Skype. I won't jump into speculations about who's buying it since it'll be made official later today anyway. In the meantime, this Pocket-Lint quote says it all.

EBay is considering selling off Skype, its $3.1billion VoIP acquisition from 2005 and a deal that the New York Times has called "one of the worst technology transactions of the decade".

Update: According to Beta News and ZDNet Blogs, the deal was actually much better than it was originally thought. eBay sold 65% of their Skype stake to an investor group for $1.9 billion. eBay was paid in cash and they still own 35% of Skype.

Verizon Launching Motorola Sholes and LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 in October

Labels: , , , , , , ,

According to this so-called internal Verizon document, Verizon is readying up a few launches in October. October marks the month where we'll see the Android-based Motorola Sholes and the LG Chocolate Touch VX8575. The dates we heard yesterday about the BlackBerry Storm 2 are also confirmed on this document, so it could really be the real deal. I'm more excited about the Sholes. By the way, we still don't know exactly what the Chocolate Touch VX8575 is, but I know a lot of people out there are hoping it's the LG BL40.

First Photos of New Android Market -- Not Motorola's Blur UI

Labels: , , , ,

Like me, you may be wondering what significance these two photos above have. Well, it's a photo of the Android App Market and it's actually a bit different, but why? According to the latest unconfirmed news, this could be the first screenshots of Motorola's customized Android UI called Blur. We heard about Blur earlier this month and maybe we'll see it at Motorola's event on the 10th of this month. It may or may not be Blur, so we'll just have to see what happens later this month.

Update: According to both Phone Arena and Engadget Mobile, what you see above is the new Android Market that has apparently been spotted on the Motorola Sholes. This is definitely more attractive to the eyes, it definitely beats the dark UI that the App Market currently has.

New HTC Hero Revision Has No Chin, Looks Much Different

Labels: , , , ,

Apparently what you see above is a revision of the HTC Hero. I'm glad to see the chin gone, but I definitely like the look of the old HTC Hero better. A source is claiming that this is the Hero200 with CDMA bands that was just approved by the FCC recently. Could this really be the HTC Hero that launches on Sprint? To be honest, I'd prefer the older model.
