HP Pavilion Dv2 Notebook Launching on June 10th

Labels: , , , , ,

The HP Pavilion dv2 notebook that we heard about back in April looks like it will be available on June 10th. The dv2 will have: a 12.1-inch display, and will run on AMD's new Neo CPU. We'll just have to see how it stacks up against Atom because Intel is already in a large, large lead. On a side note, the price still hasn't been mentioned, but in April we heard a $750 price tag. Let's hope it gets cut down a bit...

BenQ Expects To Release Android-Based Netbook and Smartphone In 2010

Labels: , , , ,

According to BenQ, they are going to be jumping onto the open-source Android OS bandwagon as well - which could be a good thing for them. They have announced that they expect to release a netbook and a smartphone running Android sometime in 2010. That's all they've mentioned so far, so we'll see how BenQ decides to set itself apart. Y'know, since all netbooks that come out are basically the same.

Apple Could Implement New Multi-Touch Scroll Wheels In Future iPods

Labels: , ,

According to this patent, the next non-touchscreen iPod could have a multi-touch scroll-wheel. The patent was filed in September 5, 2008, so it wasn't too long ago. That's basically it. Take a look at what The Apple Blog had to say below.

Originally filed on September 5, 2008, the patent application describes a “plurality of circumferentially arranged sensor elements” ordered around “the mechanical push button.” Such a device would allow for “gestures that traverse the center of the scroll wheel,” as well as multi-touch input. Rather than swiping across the display surface, one would swipe across the scroll-wheel for, as an example, Coverflow.
Zooming in and out on a photograph might be accomplished by “one finger touching an inner region of the scroll and another finger rotating in the outer region.” The familiar pinch-and-zoom method is also described, though, and it’s likely that any gesture done on the display of an iPhone or an iPod touch could be replicated on the hybrid scroll-wheel surface.
A new control scheme isn’t the only possibility for the next iPod nano, either. Last month, iLounge reported rumors of the iPod nano getting a slightly larger display and a camera. While rumors and patent applications are not much to base expectations on, new iPods are traditionally introduced in early September. If you need/want an iPod nano now, the current promotion is a good deal, but even the possibility of multi-touch and a camera seems worth the wait.

Acer's First Android Netbook Will Dual-Boot With Windows XP

Labels: , , , , , ,

Since many people don't like change in this world, this should be good news. Consumers should be happy (I'm not) that Acer's first Android netbook (that will launch in Q3 of this year) will dual-boot with Windows XP. That means that it won't be as cheap as I thought, since there will be extra $25 addition of having the Windows XP license. I'm disappointed, but maybe I'm just overreacting. Maybe having Android as a dual-boot - for now - will be a good thing, until it can prove itself worthy.

First thing I'd do though is install Windows 7 over XP.

Toshiba TG01 Launching on O2 Germany In the Next 3 Weeks... For Free

Labels: , , , ,

Basically, Germany is out of their mind. They plan to launch the Toshiba TG01 for free as long as you agree to pay just €20 ($28 USD) per month. Keep in mind that the TG01 has: a 4.1-inch WVGA resistive touchscreen, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 1GHz CPU, WiFi, HSPA connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth, a microSD slot (up to 32GB support), and manages to be just 9.9mm thin. That is very surprising, to me at least.

I don't know why O2 is going to offer this handset for free because it's pretty damn amazing and is 3rd on my current phone list (behind the N97 and the Touch Pro 2). I'm really shocked that O2 Germany decided to do this, but consumers must be pretty happy. This Windows Mobile handset is expected to launch in 3 weeks.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Box Photos

Labels: , ,

Looks like it's official. The HTC Magic will be hitting T-Mobile as the myTouch 3G and it will, apparently, be available starting on August 5 - though T-Mobile has recently said "early Summer" so the date could be closer than we think. The myTouch 3G will be available in 3 colours at launch: black, white, and merlot, which is a dark red (similar to the HTC Hero picture I posted below). Look out for it in the near future, pricing details should be officially outlined soon!
