Wintek Said To Be The Panel Supplier For Apple's Media Pad / Tablet

Labels: , , , , ,

According to Digitimes, Wintek will be the "panel module supplier for Apple's upcoming e-book form factor netbook product." So, it looks that Media Pad that I talked a bit about yesterday could be the device that they're talking about. I hope it's announced at WWDC, but it probably won't be, seeing how Apple is probably solely focused on the next iPhone announcement for that conference.

UMID M1 Now Shipping Worldwide For As Low As $659

Labels: , ,

Yes, that's right folks! The UMID M1 MID is now available worldwide!! Justek is now shipping the M1's at a pretty high price - according to myself. The Linux version is retailing for $659.42 USD and the Windows XP version is retailing for $765.78 (with an 8GB microSD card). Unfortunately, it looks like there is no [sexy] black model currently available, so that's an upset. It could be an option in the future though, we'll just have to wait and see.

Asus 1000HV Netbook Makes Its Way To Online Retailers Packed With ATI Radeon HD 3450

Labels: , , , , ,

The Asus 1000HV netbook that was announced back in July of last year, has finally been made official, since it has made its way to some online retailers. The 1000HV has: a 10.1-inch display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, Intel's Atom 1.66GHz N280 CPU, a 160GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, a memory card slot, 802.11n WiFi, a VGA output, 3 USB 2.0 slots and, of course, runs on Windows XP Home. It seems to be like every other netbook, except for one tiny little thing. The feature that sets it apart from most netbooks is that it has ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics, which is pretty decent - for a netbook. It weighs around 1kg and is now retailing here for €303.20 ($423.63 USD).

Best Buy Launching the Palm Pre In 2 Phases, Thanks To Shortages

Labels: , , ,

News about the Palm Pre has really been picking up lately, but today I have even more sad news. Since Best Buy is going to have an extreme shortage of available Palm Pres at launch time, they will have 2 different launch dates. Phase 1 being on June 6 and the second phase coming in late July / early August. It's pretty sad news for all of us, and I'm pretty disappointed. This will probably be the case for Radio Shack as well. To make things even worse, take a look at this excerpt from Boy Genius.

Due to the low expected inventory, only 300 specially selected stores will have working demos of the Pre. The remainder of the stores will sell their entire inventory of the Pre and will not have a live phone on display. Inventory will be allotted to stores based upon their Sprint sales and their past successful launches of other high profile phones. The only good news in this launch guide is that this time of dearth is expected to be followed by a time of bounty in late July or early August when the inventory of the Pre is expected to increase. Take home message here: if you really, really want a Pre on the launch date or soon thereafter, you may have to forgo Best Buy and Radio Shack and seek out a Sprint store where Pre supplies are said to be a bit more robust.

Sony Ericsson's First Android Handset To Use Android 2.0 aka "Donut"

Labels: , , ,

We already know that Sony Ericsson won't release an Android handset "for a while", but even more news about Sony Ericsson first Android device has surfaced. According to Peter Ang, Sony Ericsson's Asia-Pacific VP of marketing, their first Android handset will run Android 2.0 aka "Donut". This means it definitely will be a while before we see their first Android device, since "Cupcake" aka Android 1.5 hasn't even officially been rolled out to T-Mobile G1 owners yet.

I really hope it's one of the XPERIA's, but I think that SE will keep those handsets running Windows Mobile. We'll see what happens. I'm pegging Sony Ericsson's first Android device for a late Q4 or Q1 release. I don't think they have enough power to push one out in the next 5 months or so.

Hitachi Mobile Hi-Vision Cam Wooo Records 720p HD Video

Labels: , ,

I don't know who chose this "Wooo" name for Hitachi, but they seem to be launching a whole slew of products (like those 11 HDTVs) in this Wooo-Series. Today, I will talk about the cellphone that you above. Doesn't look like a phone does it? That's because Hitachi's Mobile Hi-Vision Cam Wooo's main feature is to record 720p video (1,280 x 720 resolution). This handset also has a 5MP camera, an HDMI interface, and a microSD slot to record all of your HD videos on. This phone is actually expected to launch this coming Monday on KDDI, so we'll look out for it then. No price has been revealed, but it probably will not be hitting us North Americans.
