Acer DX900 And X960 Smartphones Now Available In Europe And Asia

Labels: , , , , ,

They're average handsets, so it's nothing too major. Both the Acer DX900 and the X960 are running Windows Mobile 6.1, so that's definitely not something too look forward to. The DX900 does take advantage of being a dual-SIM device with triband HSDPA and quadband EDGE. The DX900 also has a 2.8-inch display, WiFi, a 3MP camera with autofocus, and GPS. It's now available in Europe and Asia. The X960, on the other hand, has HSUPA support. It also has a 3D UI, a 3.2MP camera, and should also be available in Europe and Asia by now. We've heard about these devices for a while, so I guess I'm glad to see these available because I'm tired of hearing news about them.

3 New Apple 'Get a Mac' Ads

Labels: , , ,

Apparently, during tonight's American Idol - that I did not watch because Allison was eliminated last week - Apple launched 3 new Get a Mac ads. It figures that they would launch this when I'm not watching, but whatever. They're kind of funny, but still wouldn't persuade me to buy one. Go check it out at Apple's official website.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 Is Officially Official

Labels: ,

I'm kind of late on this news, since Engadget has already had their hands-on with this netbook. The IdeaPad S10-2 was leaked a couple of days ago with supposed 3G connectivity and it proved to be correct. Alongside 3G, we also have other confirmed specs, such as: the Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB HDD, WiFi, a 1.3MP webcam, and a 10.1-inch display. Keep in mind that the model with 3G connectivity will run $50 USD more than the base price of $349.99. This Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 netbook will be available starting at the end of this month.

Acer Aspire One D250 Netbook Now Available In The Philippines

Labels: , , ,

After popping up in Germany early last month, the Acer Aspire One D250 is now also available in Asia, more specifically, the Philippines for 23,995 Pesos ($507 USD). It has the same specs as the D150, except for the CPU, which is the slightly faster Atom 1.66GHz N280. Other specs include: the 10.1-inch display, 160GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, and your choice of either 3 or a 6 cell battery. The 6-cell battery is expected to last 7.5-hours, but I doubt that from ever happening. The D250 has been around for over a month, but there has still been no word on a US release date.

You have got to love people that snap shots of their future inventory system. Thanks to a certain Bell employee, the picture shows us that the BlackBerry Tour 9630 will have an MSRP of $599.95 CDN ($510 USD). Boy Genius suggests that this could mean the BlackBerry Tour will hit Bell with a $199.95 CDN price tag on a 3-year contract. We'll see what happens in the future, but this is a nice leak!

Sharp Aquos D 10-Series Has Internet And Is Now Shipping To Japan

Labels: , , ,

The Sharp Aquos D 10 Series is now shipping to Japan, but the price has not been mentioned yet. These LCD HDTVs have: a full HD 1080p resolution, a 15,000:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz technology, and, best of all, has built-it Internet. The Internet access is apparently limited to what Yahoo! Japan restricts you to, so that kind of sucks. These TVs are ranging in sizes from 32 - 52 inches, so look out for them when they hit North America.

LG GM730F Gets A Spec Sheet

Labels: , , , , , ,

Yes, the LG GM730F has just shown up on Phone Arena with a spec sheet!! Apparently, it will be running on WinMo 6.1, instead of LG's S-Class 3D UI, which is definitely a huge disappointment. Other specs include: a 400 x 240 resolution touchscreen (size still unknown), a 5MP camera with autofocus, a microSD slot, a Qualcomm 7201A 528MHz processor, 128MB of RAM, 256MB of ROM, USB 2.0 connectivity, GPS, 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth. In addition to all of these specs, the handset is just 11.9mm thin, which isn't bad. I'm still disappointed that this phone is running on WinMo 6.1 because LG already has it's own UI to use.

I've talked about these Dell Inspiron desktops twice already (here and here) and they come in 8 different colours, so they're not short on personalization. The Inspiron 537 (below) and 537s (above) also have a wide range of spec customization, so make sure you choose wisely. Don't forget that the pink colour will go towards Susan G. Komen's for the Cure program. These desktops start at $299 USD, so they could be worth a look or two. Go check it out now on Dell's official website.

Microsoft's New Ad States That A Zune Pass Is Cheaper Than iTunes; Zune Phone Announcement In June?

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Yesterday, Microsoft released a new ad that mentioned that it takes $30,000 USD to fill up a 120GB iPod. Their goal was to inform viewers that iTunes costs a lot ($1 a song), while a Zune Pass costs a little ($15 a month). While this might pull some of the crowd in their favour, it definitely wouldn't lure me. Why? Because smart people like me download their music illegally. I have never bought anything off of the iTunes Store because it's simply not worth it. On a side note, it looks like Microsoft doesn't have anything to target except for the "high price" of all of Apple's products. You can take a look at the advertisement at Engadget.

Microsoft's new Twitter account made for Office 2010 seems to be focused on the release of a new Microsoft product. It could possibly be the rumoured Zune phone - that Microsoft has consistently denied - since the tweet says, "New product launch, that's all I'm allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre." The account also has another tweet that says, "June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers." Could this be a Zune phone or the Zune HD? We'll just have to see what Microsoft announces in June.

Palm and Sprint Announcing Palm Pre Availability In The Wall Street Journal On May 19

This is the latest rumour about the Palm Pre. Apparently, Sprint and Palm will make a big announcement in the Wall Street Journal on May 19 regarding, of course, the Palm Pre. It could finally be the announcement of the Palm Pre release date, which could be June 7, since everything is lined up to be on that date. I'll have the news for you in a week, even though I don't read the WSJ.

Modern Warfare 2 Teaser; More On May 24

Labels: , ,

Above is a teaser of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game. The clip is actually extremely short - only 17 seconds - so it's definitely just a teaser. It looks pretty promising though. It looks like we'll see more Modern Warfare 2 on May 24, so be on the lookout.

Microsoft Confirms Windows 7 Before The Holiday Season

Labels: , , ,

Yes, they have finally opened their mouth. Microsoft just announced that Windows 7 will be available for the holiday season, so it's time to write down "a new PC" onto your long Christmas list. Clearly, they didn't mention anything other than that, so we'll take Acer's word on the October 23 release date, for now. You can take a look at Microsoft's Press Conference below, thanks to Gizmodo.

Microsoft Delivers New Wave of Technologies to Help Businesses Thrive in Today's Economy
Company announces Windows 7 on track for holiday season; Windows Server 2008 R2 RC available today.
LOS ANGELES - May 11, 2009 - Microsoft Tech•Ed North America 2009 kicked off today with announcements of new technologies that enable IT professionals and developers to help their organizations save money and improve efficiencies during difficult economic times. As part of today's news, Microsoft Corp. announced that the company is anticipating that the next version of its client operating system, Windows 7, will be available to customers in time for the holiday shopping season. In addition, Windows Server 2008 R2 Release Candidate (RC) is available today with the final product releasing to market in the same timeframe as Windows 7.
"Microsoft is committed to ensuring that IT professionals and developers continue to have the platform and technologies to drive maximum value and business results. Getting the most out of IT investments is even more important in today's economy," said Bill Veghte, senior vice president of the Windows Business at Microsoft, who delivered a keynote speech at the event. During his speech, Veghte also talked about incredible partner support for Windows 7 and gave updated guidance on availability: "With early RC testing and extensive partner feedback we've received, Windows 7 is tracking well for holiday availability."
Greater Efficiencies and Cost Savings With Windows
Veghte cited the combined benefits of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 as an ideal example of delivering business efficiencies and cost savings through technology. Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 include security, reliability and productivity enhancements, which, when used together, help deliver significant cost savings and productivity gains with features such as DirectAccess and BranchCache. As recently announced, Windows 7 RC is available for public download at http://www.windows.com/windows7.
Windows Server 2008 R2 RC includes several new capabilities, such as File Classifications Infrastructure (FCI), a built-in solution for file classification and management. In addition, Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V now gives customers the ability to scale up to 64 logical processors, delivers improved Web experiences with Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.5, and offers increased hardware utilization and server availability with built-in Live Migration for virtualization technologies. Windows Server 2008 R2 RC is available for immediate download at http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsServer2008R2.
Michael Cherry, an analyst with Directions on Microsoft, acknowledged these benefits in a report titled "Windows 7 Integrates with Windows Server 2008 R2," which states, "Organizations that upgrade both clients and servers simultaneously could benefit from new features such as DirectAccess, which helps remote users connect to their organization's internal network, and BranchCache, which reduces network traffic between the main and branch offices." Cherry also reported that both products can help organizations reduce operational costs and support requirements.
"We are improving the efficiency of our branch offices and saving bandwidth by using BranchCache in Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7," said Lukas Kucera, IT services manager of Lukoil CEEB, one of the largest integrated oil and gas companies in the world. "Some of our smaller facilities, such as the office in Slovakia and the storage terminal in Belgium, have just five to 10 users, so it's not efficient to deploy a file server on-site, but it consumes bandwidth to have them continually accessing files from the main servers. BranchCache is the perfect solution."
Additional Technology Enhancements, Best Practices Deliver More Business Value
Several other announcements were made during Veghte's keynote speech that illustrate how Microsoft's products and technologies help customers and partners reduce costs and drive efficiencies. The company provided guidance on how businesses can achieve enterprise-level scale, performance and capability without enterprise-level costs through Windows Server 2008 and the .NET Framework 3.5. A recent Microsoft study - conducted using publicly available testing applications based upon industry best practices - shows customers can save up to 81 percent in total system costs by running applications on .NET 3.5 and Windows Server 2008 rather than on IBM WebSphere 7 on Power6/AIX. According to the study, customers who run their IBM WebSphere 7 applications on Windows Server and Intel Xeon 5400 processor-based HP BladeSystem servers can save up to 66 percent in total system costs when compared to running the same applications on IBM WebSphere 7 on a Power6/AIX platform. The full report can be reviewed at http://www.websphereloveswindows.com.
Tech•Ed attendees will also get the first opportunity to participate in the invitation-only Microsoft Office 2010 Technical Preview program, which will be available in July 2009. The Microsoft Office 2010 wave of products boosts productivity by giving users a familiar experience across the PC, phone and browser. For IT professionals, Office 2010 will offer more choice and flexibility in how they buy and manage their IT assets, helping them reduce costs. For developers, it will provide a platform for building innovative, connected Office-related applications with greater ease. More information is available at http://www.office2010themovie.com.
Finally, Microsoft announced that a Community Technology Preview of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (formerly SQL Server code-named "Kilimanjaro") will be available in the second half of 2009. SQL Server 2008 R2 will empower end users to make better decisions through self-service business intelligence, and help IT drive greater efficiency and reduce costs through new capabilities such as multi-server management and Master Data Services. In 2010, Microsoft will also introduce complex event processing for real-time insight into streaming information. This builds on the outstanding value of SQL Server 2008, which already provides some customers with as much as a 160 percent return on their investment.*

More Possible iPhone Specs Leaked

Labels: , , , , ,

According to a Chinese forum, the latest rumour is that the next iPhone will have a 600MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 3.2MP camera with autofocus, a digital compass, and an FM radio. This will also be followed up with the same battery, "basic shape", and screen size. This recent leak of the next iPhone with FM radio really does shock me, but it doesn't really matter if it's missing. I don't listen to the radio anyway. Keep in mind that these specs haven't been confirmed yet, so take it all with a grain of salt. We'll see what happens, WWDC is almost here.
