NokiPhone N3000i Is Part iPhone Part Nokia N95

Labels: , , , , , ,

This is probably the best fake phone I've ever seen. It combines the looks of the iPhone and packs some Nokia N95 slider features into one phone. The sad thing is that it's probably as thick as the N95 and the touchscreen is probably worse than the iPhone's. Anyways, it also has a decent spec sheet, including: a 3.2-inch touchscreen with a QVGA resolution, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, dual SIM support, a microSD card slot, and a camera with video recording capabilities. You get all of this for just $129 USD, which I think is a pretty good deal. It's pretty amazing for a fake phone.

Kyocera's OLED Concepts For The Future

Labels: , , , ,

Kyocera has shown off their concepts before at CTIA and now they've got 3D designs of them. The one above looks like a standard netbook / notebook, but it features a foldable OLED screen. Although you can't tell looking at it straight-on, trust me it has "future" written all over it. Below, and on the left, is the EOS and it is just a big foldable OLED screen with a couple of features. When it is partially folded the back of the OLED becomes a QWERTY keyboard and when you squeeze the screeen repeatedly, kinetic generators will recharge the device for you. Sounds amazing, but I don't know how long into the future Kyocera is looking at here. Below, and on the right, is the NXT which is a phone with 4 detachable OLED screens. I don't know what the use of having so many detachable screens are, but it would be amazing if you could combine the 4 screens to make 1 large screen. Anyways, on the back you can even attach a solar panel to it, so that you can keep your device recharged at all times. Just make sure you don't lose one of those OLEDs because that would suck. I think Kyocera is looking at least 5 - 10 years in the future with these, but we'll just have to see when OLED technology makes its ultimate breakthrough.

Windows 8 Will See Major Improvements; Microsoft Working On It Soon

Labels: , , ,

Windows 7 is not even available, but Microsoft is looking ahead to Windows 8 already. Microsoft has already mentioned that they are looking to make "major improvements" in Windows 8. In a recent jot posting, the Redmond company said, "For the upcoming version of Windows, new critical features are being reworked on including cluster support and support for one way replication. The core engine is also being reworked to provide dramatic performance improvements. We will also soon be starting major improvements for Windows 8 where we will be including innovative features which will revolutionize file access in branch offices."

I'm excited for Windows 7 and hopefully Windows 8 will be a great improvement. I hope that these so-called major improvements will improve productivity just like Microsoft has tried to do with Windows 7.

GiiNii Movit Mini Tablet This October and Movit Max In January; Running Android

Labels: , , ,

The GiiNii Movit Mini Tablet PC was shown off at CES, but I didn't blog about it because I might've skipped over it. Well, here it is for you all now!! The Movit Mini that was expected to launch mid-2009 is being pushed back to an expected October 1st release date. The Mini will have a 4.3-inch resistive touchscreen with a 480 x 272 resolution, Bluetooth, WiFi, an integrated webcam for Skype, built-in mic / speaker, only 256MB of onboard memory, a microSD slot, and will run on Android. No word on if it will come with Cupcake, but it should. As of right now there has been no word on a price, but they did mention that it will be "less than the iPod Touch" so hopefully they don't forget their promises.

The Movit Max, on the other hand, will have a 7-inch screen and is expected to release on January 1st, 2010.

Bridgestone's 13-Inch E-Paper With A Short Demo

Labels: , , ,

Could our future be in Bridgestone's hands? They have just shown off their 13-inch colour e-paper with "QR-LPD" technology. The e-paper - so far - is pretty fast with its 0.8-second refresh times and "Wacom-based pen input." There's a short video below and it looks like Bridgestone may have to work on the brightness of the e-paper just a tiny bit. It's a good short look at this prototype though.

Philips Lumiblade Shows Off OLEDs As Artwork

Labels: , ,

In 10 - 15 years, we could see OLEDs just about everywhere - my own guesses. Since OLEDs are extremely thin and lightweight, they can be implemented and used in so many different kind of ways. OLEDs could even find their way into certain types of artwork, which is very impressive. Be sure to click on the OLED-Display link below for more photos of OLEDs being used as art. Philips has launched a new OLED line-up called Lumiblade to show off the potential of this technology . It's really impressive what OLEDs can do and I can't wait until these are cheap and all mainstream and what not.

"When it comes to OLEDs, just about the only limit is your imagination."

Epson Jumps On The Wagon With Their Multitouch X-Desk

Labels: , , ,

First there was the Microsoft Surface Computer, then the SMART multitouch table, then the Reactable multitouch table, and now here's another surface computer coming from Epson. The Epson X-Desk will be powered by Intel's Core 2 Duo, will have multitouch capabilities, and will have a 1,024 x 768 resolution. The X-Desk will recognize 16,000 different objects using "Smart Tags" and will also have gesture recognition so that you will actually be able to talk to your table. While it may be useful during the day it may not be all that great in the night time when everyone's asleep. As of right now, there is no word on the price or the availability which is understandable.

Shuttle X270V Nettop Runs Linux; Debuts Atom 330

Labels: , , , , ,

Shuttle (in my eyes) is known for it's small products. We saw the 15.6-inch Shuttle X50 portable all-in-one PC last month and now you can set your eyes on the Shuttle X270V nettop. This nettop will have: the new Intel Atom 1.6GHz 330 CPU, up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, gigabit Ethernet, 6-channel audio, a PS/2 connector, 6 USB 2.0 ports, and VGA / DVI outputs. Shuttle also mentions that this little mini-PC will be energy efficient and will be running on openSUSE 11, which is Linux. It is now available on Shuttle's website for €299 ($390 USD). It is only available in Europe, so don't expect it to be released in the US.

Gran Turismo 5 In March 2010; Will Have PSP2 Version

Labels: , , , , , ,

Now call that a rumour. "Gran Turismo 5 is coming out in March 2010. Or December 2009, depending on your interpretation. It will have a simultaneous worldwide release." GT5 will have around 600 cars, 90 tracks, and users will also have the ability to make their own tracks, which is a new feature if I can remember correctly. I'm pretty sure no other Gran Turismo has let you make your own tracks. Anyways, GT5 will also have a voice chat feautre and clan / team support - I'm guessing that's for online use. GT5 will have 3 versions: an expensive "full" version, a stripped-down cheaper version that lets the user choose what they want to download, and a PSP2 version. That is one huge rumour. A rumour about a game that doesn't exist being released on a console / handheld that doesn't officially exist. We'll see what happens later this year.

Samsung Releasing RGB LED-Backlit Displays For Their Notebooks

Labels: , ,

According to the latest rumour, Samsung has a new display in the works. It will be mainly for their 15.6-inch notebook lineup and they will be RGB LED-backlit screens to make the colour "more rich." The said displays are also going to be thin and may also have a 16:9 aspect ratio. It's just a rumour for now, but if a Samsung notebook features these new displays, I'll be sure to write a post about it. These new displays will be implemented on Samsung's high-end notebook lineup, but I don't know what models those are.

Street Fighter IV Chapionship Mode On April 24

Labels: , , , , , , ,

For all of you Street Fighter IV players, you're lucky - because I'm craving to get that game. Anyways, Championship Mode will be available via a patch on April 24 for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. "Championship Mode brings a number of new features for online players, including the introduction of five levels of tournaments. Participating (and winning) in these tournaments will earn gamers 'Grade Points.' earn more Grade Points and you'll be granted the opportunity to enter even more exclusive tournaments." If you win a tournament you will earn Championship Points, which is basically Street Fighter IV prize money.

Another feature that will be added is a replay function. On PSN you will be available to rate matches and on Xbox Live you can download the replays but you can't rate them. So you can pick your poison or maybe you already have since you may already have the console and the game.
