Microsoft Office 14, 15-inch MacBook Air, Windows 7: My First Impressions

Labels: , , , , ,

Recently, there were Microsoft Office 14 screenshots that were leaked. Right now, it's being scheduled to release next year, 2010. This article on LifeHacker mentions that the beta may begin in May, so it's not that far away. On the new Office 14, the only visible difference from 2007's version is the ribbon at the top of the page. This doesn't matter much to me because i use OpenOffice, but i'll still try out the beta, when it comes out.

There is a new rumour that has surfaced about good ol' Apple. Apparently, they are working on a new 15-inch MacBook Air, which is a small step-up from their current version, which is 13.3 inches. Interesting.

So, Windows 7. I got the ISO CD from my friend and i installed it, last night, when i got home. As soon as i installed it on my laptop, i was amazed. I was upgrading my laptop from XP Media Center, so it was a huge step up, visual-wise. The features all work well: Aero Peek, Aero Shake, 2 Window side-by-side thing and the Show Desktop in the corner. Oh yeah, and now that i've upgraded to Windows 7, i finally have Windows Flip 3D, which i use for fun when i'm bored. Anyways, the boot-up is a couple of seconds faster than my XP Media Center, which is impressive, since it's just a beta. I dual-booted Windows XP and Windows 7, so just in-case Windows 7 upsets me, in some way, then i can switch back. But, so far, i have no need to even go back on Windows XP. Windows 7 is very impressive, so far. This is a big step-up from [lame] Windows Vista. It runs very stable, but i have had one BSOD though. I will do a more lengthy review later on because, right now, i'm about to go to my girlfriend's place. Windows 7 does have a bit of a learning curve. For me, it was because of the new taskbar. It takes some getting used to. I've pinned: Google Chrome, MSN, Skype and iTunes, to my taskbar, so there really is no need for me to put up my ObjectDock (a dock like the Mac's have) or use any icons that are on my desktop. I'm probably going to pin my important folders on the taskbar as well, when i figure out how-to correctly. More on Windows 7 later, but all-in-all, it is great. I've installed it on 3 machines, so far in my house. Even my mom doesn't have trouble using it. It's an excellent beta. I'm very impressed.
