Nokia Cutting Off N-Gage's Life Supply In September 2010.

Labels: , ,

Nokia has finally announced that it will be killing off their N-Gage gaming service in 2010. They'll be integrating it into their app store - Ovi Store - though, so it won't disappear entirely... until September 2010 that is, which is the kill date. It looks like a disappointing time for N-Gage fans, but they should be able to move on from here.

Samsung S5560 Launching as the F5650?

Labels: , ,

It looks like French Les Mobiles has a picture of the Samsung F5650, which actually looks a whole lot like the S5560. The specs and looks are identical. We don't know when it will launch or the price, but it looks like it will be available pretty soon. It's not exactly big news and it wouldn't be surprising since Samsung does change up the names on their handsets sometimes.

On the other hand, LG has announced that they will be mass-producing their 30-inch OLED displays in the second half of 2011. In 2012 they'll be working on producing their larger 40-inch AMOLED displays. It looks like OLED technology isn't just around the corner - at least TV-wise.

Update: According to Gizmodo, LG also went on to mention that they believe OLED panels will be cheaper than LCD TVs by 2016. Now I'm hoping for someone to build a time machine so that I can go 7 years into the future.

Next Nintendo Wii To Feature Blu-Ray Drive, Launching in 2010; Netflix Coming To Current Wii

Labels: , , , , ,

Today we've just heard the latest rumour about the upcoming Nintendo Wii 2 / WiiHD. The rumour states that the next-gen Wii will feature a primary Blu-ray drive with, of course, 720p / 1080p output. It's expected to launch worldwide on the exact same day sometime in 2010. Yes, the current Wii is fairly last-gen (graphics-wise), but it's still the leading console of this gen (between the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3). If a new Wii comes out next year I'd be surprised because it still seems to be selling pretty hot, even though Nintendo is reporting a slight decline in sales.

Oh yeah, we're also hearing that Netflix support will be coming to the original Nintendo Wii.

Samsung has mentioned that they're looking to push out this new display in the second half of 2010 if all goes well.

HTC's CEO Mentions That They Are Not Releasing An HD2 With Android, Still Brewing Up Something Special

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

HTC's CEO, Peter Chou, has just announced that they will not be making an HTC HD2 with Android on it. We heard about these rumours back in early September, but it looks like those rumours panned out to be false. To me it doesn't really matter if they don't port Android into the HTC HD2 because we already know that HTC is planning something big for their future Android devices. We've repeatedly heard the rumour of the HTC Dragon / Passion that has the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU - if only it looked a little bit nicer though.

Apple Patent Signals Wireless Earphones That Have Mp3 Player Built Right In

Labels: , , ,

What you see above is a photo of Apple's latest patent for wireless headphones that integrate the media player straight into the headphone itself. Like the picture above also depicts it could also have a tiny display so that you can see what you're playing if you take it out of your ear. "Apple suggests it could use USB to offload content directly to a computer or else use the headset's wireless, which could involve Bluetooth, RF or even infrared to sync content wirelessly." This does seem like a fairly neat idea, but it does have its flaws. Make sure it doesn't fall out of your ear...

Samsung's 7-Inch AMOLED Display Going Into Production In Q1 2010, Getting Used In Netbooks, Tablet, E-Book Readers

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Along with the news we heard yesterday, which was a 7-inch AMOLED display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, 300 nits of brightness, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, we're also hearing that this netbook's display will have 16.7 million colours and just about 100% NTSC color space coverage.

Samsung plans on mass producing this 7-inch display in Q1 2010 and it'll be used mainly in netbooks, e-books, and likely tablets / large MIDs. You can watch the short video below if you'd like.

Labels: , , , ,

Nintendo has just confirmed that they will be launching a larger DSi. Set for a launch later this year, the DSi LL will be hitting Japan in under a month - November 28th to be exact. Nintendo will be launching the same gaming handset in Europe in Q1 2010, but as the Nintendo DSi XL. The DSi LL / DSi XL will feature dual 4.2-inch displays and the same ports from the original DSi. The trade-off for the dual-screen is that it will weigh 100 grams more than the original DSi (now 314 grams) and the measurements are 161 x 91.4 x 21.2 mm. The battery will supposedly last 4 to 5 hours on maximum brightness or 13 to 17 hours when you dim the screen a bit.

Anyways, in Japan we're hearing that it'll be available for ¥20,000 ($220 USD). Yes, this handheld's launch date in North America hasn't been mentioned yet. Nintendo will be launching it in three colours: Wine Red (above), Dark Brown (below), and Natural White (self-explanatory).

GSM Variant of the Motorola Droid Spotted In the Wild, Video and All

We saw the GSM variant of the Motorola Droid pass the FCC just two days ago and these are the first photos of the said handset. Surprisingly enough it looks the exact same as the CDMA version launching on Verizon next week (it's a joke, of course it looks the same). We already know that the bands are compatible with AT&T in the US and Rogers (I believe also Bell and Telus) in Canada. I doubt AT&T is planning to launch this Android-based handset, so I'm praying and crossing my fingers that this handset hits Rogers up here in Canada! Enjoy the video below with its old friend, the HTC Magic.
