Skytone's Android Netbook / Tablet Is Embarassing Spec-Wise

Labels: , , , , ,

This is not a good look for Android. This netbook / tablet may look decent at first, but wait until you hear the spec sheet. This latest device from Skytone (dubbed the Alpha 680) has a 7-inch display with an 800 x 480 resolution, a 533MHz ARM CPU, only 128MB of RAM (up to 256MB), 1GB of storage (up to 4GB), 2 USB 2.0 ports, WiFi, possible 3G, an 4-in-1 card slot, and it will run Android. Although the specs are pretty bad, this may prove something. Judging from my knowledge (I could be wrong), this could mean that Android could be capable of running on a lower-end device than Linux can, which I think is pretty amazing. Still, a netbook / tablet coming out nowadays with only a 533MHz processor is kind of lame. The good thing is that if it does make its way to the market, it will cost around $100 USD - even though I think that's still expensive.
