Unknown 7-Inch Viewsonic Android-Based Tablet Leaks

Labels: , , ,

A new tablet has just poked its head out and it's coming from ViewSonic. Apparently, what you see is a 7-inch model but the name is unknown right now - since the company already has a ViewPad 7. Of course, it's running Android and it's said to be version 2.2. This actually showed up at CES but it doesn't look like it was officially announced which kind of sucks. Who knows when ViewSonic will actually announce this one, maybe MWC?

RIM Prepping 1 Million BlackBerry Playbooks For Q1?

Labels: , , , , ,

Coming from DigiTimes is word that RIM is preparing 1 million units of the BlackBerry PlayBook. This is going to be made by Quanta, the same company making about 800,000 Motorola Xoom tablets for the same quarter. Obviously, RIM is being more optimistic by making 200,000 more units than Motorola but we'll just have to see how the sales go. I'm pretty sure that the PlayBook will reign supreme in Canada though since the Android adoption up here isn't as fast as in the US.

Next BlackBerry Torch Gets Detailed, Includes Pic and Specs; 1.2GHz!

Labels: , , , , , , , , ,

BGR is back at it again, this time getting exclusive information on the next BlackBerry Torch from RIM. This one will reportedly feature a very similar design to the first Torch but it'll have a matte silver finish this time around. This one is said to be hitting the market (AT&T in the US) in Q3 of this year. Canada should be getting it on at least four carriers as well (Rogers, Bell, Telus, Virgin Mobile).

Specs include: a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with a mediocre 640 x 480 resolution, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE / tri-band HSPA connectivity, a 1.2GHz CPU with hardware acceleration, 8GB of internal storage, a 5MP camera with a flash, 512MB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1 / GPS support, NFC, a magnetometer / accelerometer / proximity sensor, OpenGL ES, a 14.6mm thick body, and BB OS 6.1. Of course, you'll also probably find WiFi in here which shouldn't be surprising. Interesting coming from RIM, but they definitely have to work on improving the display.

HP's Todd Bradley Hints At Feb. 9th Event To Be a WebOS-Based Tablet

Labels: , , ,

In case you forgot, HP is holding an event on February 9th and it looks like the EVP of HP's Personal Devices Group, Todd Bradley, has just hinted at what the event will be about. The event could be what everyone has been waiting for: an HP / Palm WebOS-based tablet. Bradley mentioned that HP's first iPad competitor will be announced at the event and if that's really the case then it can't be Windows 7 based. This is getting exciting and the event is in a few weeks - likely after the next-gen iPad gets announced.

BlackBerry "Dakota" Finally Leaks, Includes Specs and a Picture!

Labels: , ,

BGR has picked up big exclusive news about a new RIM smartphone. Codenamed the BlackBerry "Dakota", this smartphone has been in the works for quite sometime. It definitely looks like it's the touchscreen Bold that we've been hearing about for a long time; it'll likely be a part of RIM's growing Bold Series whenever it launches.

Specs reportedly include a 2.8-inch VGA capacitive touchscreen display (640 x 480 resolution), a 5MP camera with HD video recording and a flash, 4GB of internal storage, 768MB of RAM, WiFi b/g/n / Bluetooth support, NFC, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE / tri-band UMTS connectivity, a microUSB port, a magnetometer / accelerometer / proximity sensor, a 10.5mm thin body, 3G mobile hotspot, and BB OS 6.1. It definitely raises the bar in the BlackBerry world, but it's sad to see that the only thing missing here is how fast the CPU is. No clue on when this one will launch.
