Palm Voice Test and LTE Voice Show Up On Verizon's Website, Hints At Future WebOS LTE Smartphone?

Labels: , , , , , ,

Right now it doesn't tell us much (it's been taken down since) but a product listed as the Palm Voice Test and Palm LTE Voice on Verizon's website could be hinting at something. It's all guess work right now but it could mean that Palm plans to launch an LTE (4G) device this year on the Verizon network. This won't be the first LTE device the carrier will have but it'll definitely be great for HP / Palm if they can just improve the hardware of their smartphones. They're going to have to compete with Android superphones and the iPhone which will be announced tomorrow.

Sprint may have released the EVO Shift 4G from HTC but that's not the only new Android phone they launched. The carrier has also released the Motorola i886 which runs an unknown version of Android. The i886 features a 2MP camera, Stereo Bluetooth / GPS support, a microSD card slot, a numeric keypad, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and it's 810G military certified so it's quite the rugged phone. This is all going for $79.99 on a 2-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate if you're interested.

RIM's BlackBerry Playbook Confirmed To Have TI's OMAP4430 Dual-Core 1GHz CPU

Labels: , , , ,

Someone has finally come out and confirmed what's powering the RIM BlackBerry Playbook. Brian Carlson, Texas Instrument's product line manager, has told EETimes that the Playbook is running on a new dual-core OMAP4430 CPU which is clocked at 1GHz. Sadly, this isn't the company's most powerful chip since they have a dual-core 1.5GHz OMAP4440 CPU as well. Getting back on track, the TI OMAP4430 packs two ARM Cortex A9 chips together and it's capable of Full HD video playback. Apparently, RIM chose this CPU over Nvidia's Tegra 2 chipset because TI's chip has MShield mobile security technology to enhance security "to protect content, transactions and network access."

Motorola Shipping 800,000 Xoom Tablets For Q1?

Labels: , , , , ,

Digitimes has just mentioned something quite significant about Motorola. Apparently, the company plans to ship 800,000 Motorola Xoom tablets in Q1 alone which is an impressive amount. Hopefully, the price is right but I'm pretty confident that Motorola will be able to sell out of these impressive "Honecyomb" based tablets. This tablet will reportedly be available in four different colours and should be launching in the next few months with a WiFi-only model expected as well.

Samsung SCH-R910 Leaks, Headed To MetroPCS As Their First LTE Smartphone

Labels: , , , , ,

We've seen it leaked before and here's a shot of the whole smartphone. It's the Samsung SCH-R910 (unknown name right now) and it'll be MetroPCS' first smartphone with LTE (4G) connectivity. Inside you'll reportedly find a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, a 5MP camera, a microSD card slot, and Android 2.2 along with the Touchwiz UI. Judging from the looks of it - and the fact that it's running Android - this will likely take on the Galaxy moniker when it hits the carrier later this quarter. The contract-free price is said to be somewhere between $329 and $399.
