Casio has just launched their rugged flip phone on Verizon. We heard about it a couple of weeks ago and the company's G'zOne Ravine handset is going to be available "soon" for $149.99 on a 2-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate. This handset has a 3.2MP camera with an LED flash, noise cancellation, VZ Navigator, PTT capabilities, and MIL-STD-810G resistance so it'll withstand some water, dust, and shock. Palm "Mansion" Smartphone To Sport WVGA Display and No Physical QWERTY?

Labels: ,

According to the latest rumour, Palm is working on a new handset. Codenamed the Mansion, this smartphone will reportedly feature a WVGA (480 x 800 resolution) display and won't have a physical QWERTY keyboard of any kind. That means you'll be stuck typing on the WebOS' on-screen keyboard which shouldn't be too bad. Other specs are still unknown but since we're just hearing about this now I'm going to say that this won't be out this year.

Nokia N9's Hardware Is Near-Perfect, MeeGo Needs Some Work Though

Labels: , , ,

The Nokia N9 aka the MacBook Pro clone has just been tested by the infamous Eldar Murtazin. He didn't mention much, but he did say that the hardware is near-perfect. Unfortunately, he can't say the same about the software right now. The N9 will be running on the MeeGo OS so it's definitely far from perfect right now. He mentions that hopefully Nokia will alter the OS before the launch which is said to be sometime in 2011.

Toshiba Says Their 12 and 20-Inch Glasses-Free 3DTVs Will Be Available In Japan This December

Labels: , ,

Toshiba has just announced that Japan will be getting their first crack at a glasses-free 3DTV before the year ends. They plan to ship two models sometime in December and they'll be the $1,450 12-inch model (12GL1) and the $2,900 20-inch model (20GL1). The 12GL1 sports an LED-backlit display with a 466 x 350 resolution, HDMI / USB ports, LAN, Regza Link capabilities, and an SD card slot. The larger 20GL1 model sports an LED-backlit display with a 1,280 x 720 resolution, a Cell processor, and everything else you'll find in the smaller sibling. The 20-inch model is pictured above and the 12-incher is below which actually looks like a digital picture frame.

Sharp Announces the Android-Based IS03 Smartphone With iPhone 4-Like Display and 9.6MP Camera

Labels: , , , ,

Sharp has just announced their latest smartphone, simply the IS03. This smartphone takes Android to a whole new level on the resolution scale with its 3.5-inch display with 960 x 640 worth of pixels. The handset's display also has Advanced Super View (ASV) which should sport the same advantages (wide view angles) as an IPS display. Yep, just like the iPhone 4 so far. Then we get to the specs, the IS03 sports a 9.6MP AF camera with a flash, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, WiFi b/g / Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR support, GPS, an FM radio, 512MB of RAM, a 2GB SD card for storage, a one-seg TV tuner, and version 2.1 of Google's OS. Sadly, it likely won't be hitting anywhere outside of Japan but the smartphone itself does have Global Passport CDMA connectivity so if you can smuggle one out of there then you can use it on a CDMA network where ever you want.

HTC Officially Announces the White Desire and the Black Legend, Froyo With Sense Pre-Installed

Labels: , , , , , ,

HTC has just announced that they're going to have two new Android-based handsets available, but they're not entirely new. We've seen the white HTC Desire already so that shouldn't be too surprising. The handset that caught me off guard here is the black HTC Legend which looks sexy - especially with the aluminum unibody. Specs stay the exact same as the old ones except both of these models come with Android 2.2 pre-installed along with the Sense UI which is great news if you've held off on buying one.

T-Mobile Officially Announces the myTouch; Sporting a Front-Facing Camera, HSPA+, and Froyo

Labels: , , , , , , ,

And this is why I highly doubt that T-Mobile will be launching the myTouch for free on a 2-year contract. The carrier has just officially announced their next Android-based smartphone and it's a pretty good one. The myTouch sports a 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen display, a 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording, a next-gen Qualcomm MSM8255 1GHz CPU, a front-facing camera for video chatting, WiFi 802.11n support, HSPA+ connectivity, and Android 2.2. Prices and the exact release date aren't mentioned but T-Mobile did says that it'll be available in time for the holidays. That means it'll be available before the end of the year. In the mean time, check it out on T-Mobile.
