Marvell Shows Off Android 2.1 Based 10-Inch Tablet At Netbook Summit

Labels: , , ,

At Netbook Summit, there were some devices shown off that actually weren't netbooks. What you see above is a new 10-inch tablet powered by a Marvell Armada 610 ARM-based CPU. This tablet will have Android 2.1 as an OS and apparently this CPU is just as powerful as a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. In the picture above you can see that it has a microSD card slot and an HDMI port as well. In the meantime, you can check out Engadget for a few more photos.

VIA Looking To Launch Five Android-Based Tablets Later This Year, Priced At $100 - $150

Labels: , , ,

VIA has just mentioned that they're going to be powering a couple of Android-based tablets in the future - up to five of them will hit the market later this year. The best part about all of these tablets is that they'll all be priced anywhere between $100 to $150, which isn't much. Of course, you get what you pay for with these tablets so don't expect them to blow your mind. Let's just hope that none of them look like the reference design above.

T-Mobile USA To Launch the Android-Based Garminfone On June 9th For $199.99

Labels: , , , ,

We already know that T-Mobile is set to launch the Android-based Garminfone in June and now it looks to be confirmed that it'll be coming on the 2nd of that month. June 2nd looks like it's the date and $199.99 is the price tag. This handset will be packing a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD card slot, a 3MP AF camera, and WiFi support. It's definitely looking like an overpriced phone seeing how it's running an old version of Android without any goodies.

Update: Engadget has just mentioned that the release isn't actually June 2nd, it'll actually be on June 9th. This is coming straight from T-Mobile this time, so you'll have to wait a week longer than you though, but shouldn't matter.

Nokia N8 Won't Be the First Symbian^3 Device, Unnamed Asian Company To Win That Race

Labels: , , , ,

What you see above - the Nokia N8 - will be running the new Symbian^3 OS, but surprisingly it won't be the first. As Symbian^3 nears full completion an unnamed Asian vendor will actually be launching their own device with this OS on it and it'll reportedly be available before Nokia releases the N8. Right now, we don't know exactly what this device is so we'll just have to wait a little bit.

Lee Williams, the executive director of the Symbian Foundation also mentioned that they're expecting "a very mature Symbian^4" will be ready sometime in Q1 2011.

The lucky phone is the Motorola CLIQ XT which you can now get on T-Mobile's website (here) for free on a 2-year contract. This handset is sporting MOTOBLUR over top of Android, but no one knows when or if it'll be getting an update to version 2.2 "Froyo" since Motorola has to reskin in.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G and Acer Liquid E Internal Documents Leak Out, Both Launches Imminent

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Two new leaks have trickled out. One is regarding the BlackBerry Pearl 3G (9100) and the other one is about the Android-based Acer Liquid E. As you can see, both of these handsets should be hitting Rogers for $49.99 on a 3-year contract, $324.99 on a 2-year contract, $374.99 on a 1-year contract and $424.99 contract-free. Boy Genius actually got another inventory screenshot that shows that the Pearl 3G will actually be available for $29.99 on a 3-year contract, so we'll just have to wait and see which becomes reality. Both of these handsets should be available over the next couple of days.

Labels: , , ,

There's a new rumour going around that Microsoft's Project Natal will be launching for the Xbox 360 on October 26th and it'll be priced at $149. This "source" also mentioned that there'll be a new bundle on that day which will include the $199 Xbox 360 Arcade console and Project Natal - the bundle will be priced at $299. It's just a rumour for now and it seems quite expensive - at least I think so.

T-Mobile Launching the myTouch 3G Slide On June 2nd, Huge Ad Campaign Starts On June 16

Labels: , , , , , ,

Confirming the myTouch 3G Slide's June 2nd release date is this brief timeline above. T-Mobile USA will start a "rolling launch" for the handset and demo phones won't appear in stores until the 7th. The ad campaign will begin on the 16th and you'll be seeing this handset everywhere you go. On the 19th, they'll be announcing something "BIG" but it's unknown exactly what this will be. Maybe it'll be an immediate update to "Froyo" which would be great.

It'll be rolling out to T-Mobile employees sometime next week (when the handset gets released) for testing purposes - according to the latest rumour. Best Buy To Launch an HTC EVO 4G Dock

Labels: , , , , , , ,

The HTC EVO 4G is going to hit Sprint soon and it looks like Best Buy will come through to deliver an HDMI dock in the future as well. The dock clearly shows that the dock has both mini HDMI and microUSB plugs so that it'll connect to the bottom of the EVO 4G. Unfortunately, the price isn't mentioned so that's definitely something someone has to leak soon.

Archos 8 Home Tablet Hits the FCC With a Huge Bezel and 600MHz CPU

Labels: , ,

At the beginning of this month we heard about the Archos 8 Home Tablet and now it has just hit the FCC. This Home Tablet will actually be much more suited to sit somewhere in your house because I don't think you want to be seen in public with a bezel like that. The weird part about all of this is that the FCC document shows that Archos is using the Hannstar HSD070IDW1 display which is just 7-inches so there needs to be some mistake here. The display is said to be resistive and it has a 25ms response time, a 480 x 800 resolution, a 500:1 contrast ratio, 300 nits of brightness, and a pretty bad viewing angle. Inside you'll find a Rockchip RK2808 600MHz CPU. Check it out at the FCC here.

A commenter on Engadget did point out that the spacing in between this huge bezel is 8-inches so Archos must've made a mistake.

Apple Chooses an LCD IPS Panel For Next iPhone, Rejects Samsung's AMOLED Because Of Shortages

Labels: , , , , , ,

According to DigiTimes, Apple has rejected Samsung's AMOLED display for the next iPhone. This is because Samsung won't be able to keep up with the demand of the iPhone while supplying other manufacturers. Apple is rumoured to have chosen a new LCD IPS panel instead and inside you'll find the Apple A4 CPU. I knew having an AMOLED display in the next iPhone would be too good to be true seeing how we've been hearing this rumours for years now. It's too expensive for them anyway.

Motorola Shadow Leaks Out Again, Confirming 4.1-Inch Display and 720MHz CPU

The rumoured 4.3-inch display is said to actually be slightly smaller at 4.1-inches and you won't find a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU inside of here which is a slight let down. Instead this handset packs a TI OMAP 3630 CPU which is an ARM Cortex A8 chip clocked at 720MHz. Inside you'll also be getting 8GB of internal storage and on the back you'll find an 8MP snapper. Of course, there'll be a microSD card slot on here so there's really no need to worry - the picture also shows the microHDMI port. It's still a pretty juicy device, so this is definitely something to look out for.
