Dell Mini 5 To Get Android 2.1 Update This September

Labels: , , , , ,

The Dell Mini 5 is not even available yet and Dell is chirping that it'll be running Android 2.1 by September. That's really all they mentioned and we're hoping that Dell releases this soon or else we might as well wait for the Dell Looking Glass tablet which blows this out of the water. It's expected to be released in the Summertime.

Dell Looking Glass Tablet Lets Out, Packing Android 2.1 and Nvidia's Tegra 2

Labels: , , , , , ,

Dell just can't stop leaking all this information. What you see above is the Dell Looking Glass which is an awkward name for a tablet, so let's hope that's just a codename right now. This tablet is expected to pack a 7-inch touchscreen display with an 800 x 480 resolution, Nvidia's Tegra 2 graphics, supposedly 4GB of RAM, 4GB of flash storage, an SDHC card slot, a 1.3MP camera, an optional TV tuner, and Android 2.1. It's looking like a pretty good tablet, so hopefully the responsiveness is down-pat before they launch it this November.

Dell "Smoke" To Run Android "Froyo" With Portrait QWERTY Keypad, Launching In Q2 2011

Labels: , , , ,

Yes, this is the Dell "Smoke", the fourth handset that they has leaked from them today. This handset is sporting a candybar design and it's set to launch with Android 2.2 "Froyo" a year from now - Q2 2011. This handset is packing a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, a QWERTY keypad, a 5MP camera, a Qualcomm MSM7230 800MHz CPU, a microSD card slot, WiFi / Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR support, HSPA (14.4Mbps) connectivity, and dual-microphones for noise cancellation. It's expected to stuff all of that into a 12mm thin body. The more, the merrier, Dell. I just wish these handsets weren't coming out so far into the future.

Dell Flash To Run Android (2.2) Froyo, Expected In Q1 2011

Labels: , , , , ,

Dell must love today's date because they have just unveiled their third handset of the night and they're all looking extremely great. This one is the Dell Flash and it's going to be running Android 2.1 "Froyo" when it launches in Q1 2011. It'll be capable of running on AT&T's 3G network.

This handset is expected to pack a 3.5-inch WVGA LCD touchscreen display, a 5MP AF camera, 512MB of RAM / ROM, a microSD card slot (up to 64GB), WiFi / Bluetooth 3.0 support, TV output, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Qualcomm MSM7230 800MHz CPU, 850 / 1900 / 2100MHz HSPA (14.4Mbps / 5.6Mbps), and an 11mm thin body. It's a pretty good looking handset and it's not that bad on the spec sheet either. Of course, the "Stage" UI will be over top of Android and it'll have Flash 10.1 support. Apparently, this handset will be made of "curved glass" so don't drop it.

Right now this handset is looking pretty good, but keep in mind that the launch is set for next year where these specs will be less-than average. Check out the link below for more information.

Dell Thunder Will Run Android, Packs 4.1-Inch OLED Display and 8MP Camera

Labels: , , ,

Looks like the Dell Lightning isn't the only handset that they had up their sleeve. This one is the Dell Thunder which is running Android and packs, again, a nice-looking spec sheet. It's quite similar to the Lightning, except it runs Android which is great news. It's packing a 4.1-inch WVGA OLED display, an 8MP camera, AT&T / HSDPA connectivity, a pre-installed Hulu app, Flash 10.1 support, the Swype touchscreen keyboard, social integration (Facebook and Twitter, of course), and the new Dell "Stage" UI over top of Android (probably 2.2 by the time it comes out). It'll be surprising if this handset doesn't have a Snapdragon CPU, so I can bet my life that it does have it.

I'm guessing that this will be available in Q4 of this year as well, but I don't know for sure. Like the Lightning, it'll get an upgrade to LTE 4G connectivity in Q4 2011. Wow, Dell, who knew they had this in them? Check out the link below for more photos.

Dell Lightning Shocks the World; Runs Windows Phone 7, Packs 4.1-Inch OLED, Snapdragon, and QWERTY Keypad

Labels: , , ,

Say what!? Yeah, Dell's making a Windows Phone 7 and it's one of the best handsets that have been announced to-date, which is pretty amazing. Dubbed the Dell Lightning, this handset is scheduled to launch in Q4 of this year and in Q4 2011, this handset will get an upgrade to support LTE 4G networks. It's got a 14.9mm body, which is pretty hefty but it's a sacrifice you have to make.

This handset is packing a mighty fine spec sheet: a 4.1-inch WVGA OLED touchscreen display, T-Mobile / AT&T 3G connectivity, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, a 5MP AF camera, 1GB of flash memory, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory thanks to a microSD card (probably not user-replaceable), GPS / WiFi / Bluetooth support, an FM radio, an accelerometer, and Flash support. Clearly, you can see that it packs a QWERTY keyboard as well, which is absolutely amazing. Check out the link below for a bunch more photos.

Someone over at Sony Ericsson looks like they're lying. Apparently, the XPERIA X10 will be getting an upgrade to Android 2.1 (version 1.6 at launch) in the second half of this year and it'll bring multitouch with it. That's definitely a long time from time from now and Engadget points out that Froyo, version 2.2, will be available by then. Oh well, better late than never, right?

Update: According to Unwired View, Sony Ericsson has actually re-confirmed that multitouch will not be coming to the XPERIA X10.

Apparently, Google may announce version 2.2 of Android on May 19th at their annual I/O conference, which will take place in San Francisco. Android 2.2 is expected to feature Flash 10.1 support, additional RAM, a JT compiler, an FM radio, some OpenGL ES 2.0 enhancements, and activation of a colour trackball. Of course, this version is set to reduce Android fragmentation in the long run.
