Apple's Codenames For the Next-Generation iPod Touch and iPhone Get Revealed

Labels: , ,

It looks like some hard diligent worker has just spotted the possible future iPhone and iPod Touch "codenames." Reportedly, the iPhone's codename is the N89 and the iPod Touch's is the N80. What does this tell us so far? Absolutely nothing, but I guess it's worth noting.

The K48 you see above is reportedly the iPad's internal name, just in case you were wondering.

Sony Reveals Vaio W Netbook Series, Colourful and Core i5-Packing Vaio E Series Of Notebooks

Labels: , , , ,

It looks like Sony has just revealed the Vaio E and Vaio W Series. The Vaio E Series looks like it will be a (customizable) colourful bunch of notebooks featuring a 15.5-inch display, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, Intel Core i3 / i5 CPU options, a chiclet keyboard, and an HDMI output. For $800 you can get this notebook with a 2.13GHz Intel Core i3 CPU and a 500GB HDD. You can upgrade it to fit an Intel Core i5 2.4GHz CPU and a Blu-ray drive into this notebook if you want. The pre-orders start right now, but it won't ship until March. Keep in mind that there'll be a $700 model in the future.

The Vaio W Series is nothing to brag about since it's your regular netbook. It features a 10.1-inch display, an Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz CPU, a 250GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, an integrated webcam, a microphone, and Windows 7 Starter Edition. The price for this netbook hasn't been mentioned yet but it should be available later this month.

Apple Secretly Launching the iPad With Front-Facing Webcam?

Labels: , ,

At Apple's conference last week the iPad was unveiled. It doesn't look like it'll be a desirable device (although it will still sell), but maybe Apple has some tricks up their sleeve. The iPad isn't up for pre-order yet, but there are new rumours going around that the iPad actually has a front-facing camera. They just didn't show it off. This is unconfirmed at the time, but hopefully Apple will tell us sooner or later. The evidence is piling up.

Leaked Photo of the 4th-Generation iPhone? Is That a Front-Facing Camera?

Labels: , , ,

Could this be for real? Last week we saw the unveiling of the iPad, but we saw this picture pop up right before the official launch. Some people are starting to think that the iPhone on the iPad (in the picture above) could actually be the 4th-generation iPhone prototype. It's, basically, got the same look as the old models that's why this rumour didn't start up right away. In the close-up (below) you can see that this "prototype" looks like it could have a front-facing camera, but it could be something else of course. This iPhone also doesn't sport an aluminum bezel, but instead has some sort of plastic around it. When I first looked at it I figured that it was just a regular iPhone case, but that might not be the case.

Keep in mind that this is just a rumour right now, but if the next iPhone doesn't have a front-facing camera then the whole world will be surprised.

Intel Launching Atom N455 and N475 CPUs In Q3 With DDR3 RAM Support

Labels: , , , ,

It looks like Pine Trail isn't done their Intel Atom line-up yet. Later this year, Intel will be launching the Atom N455 and the N475 which will be the same as the new Atom N450 and N470 CPUs except they'll have support for DDR3 RAM. The clock speeds will be the same, but you'll receive a significant boost in speed since DDR3 RAM is faster than DDR2. These two CPUs will launch in Q3 of this year.

Lenovo Roadmap Leaks Out; X201 Notebook Tablet and X201 / X201s / L400 / L500 / W701 Notebooks On the Way

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

It looks like a new leakage has just been spotted and it's regarding Lenovo. In the roadmap you can see that they plan to launch a 12-inch X201 notebook tablet and the X201 / X201s ultraportables. There's also a 14-inch L400, a 15-inch L500, and a 17-inch W701 notebook in the works. All of these models are expected to run on Intel Core i3 / i5 CPUs. However, the 17-inch W701 will be using an Intel Core i7 CPU since we saw it hit the FCC way back in November.

Apple Refreshing Mac Pro Desktop Line-Up With Six-Core Intel "Gulftown" Core i7 CPUs?

Labels: , , , ,

Hopefully you haven't bought a Mac Pro earlier this year because the latest rumour states that Apple will be updating their desktop Mac Pros this very month. Intel is set to launch the Intel Core i7-970 / i7-980X in the very near future (March), but Apple could have a short exclusivity on these new 32nm chips. These chips could reach speeds of 3.33GHz (more with overclocking) and feature six-cores with 12 threads and 12MB of L3 cache. If the refresh doesn't happen this month it'll happen next month - before the end of the quarter basically.

This notebook weighs 3.5 pounds so it's fairly light. Other features include WiFi 802.11n / 3G support, and even SSD options. Labels: ,

There's a new rumour going around that RIM is planning to launch BB OS 5.2 by the end of this year. Let's hope that includes their new mobile browser that should be on the way in a couple of months. RIM is also reportedly working on BB OS 6.0, but my guess is that it'll launch next year.

Samsung GT-S8500 To Be the World's First Bluetooth 3.0 Handset

Labels: , , , , , ,

It's rare to find anything with Bluetooth 3.0 support these days, but it will be a normal thing in the future. For now, the first handset that looks like it will be getting the Bluetooth 3.0 treatment is the Samsung GT-S8500. Unfortunately that seems to be the only thing that seems to be desirable right now. We do know that this handset will feature EDGE / GPRS connectivity, a 3.1-inch OLED (probably touchscreen) display, and the TouchWiz UI. We don't know if this will be one of Samsung's first handsets running Bada but we'll hopefully see it at MWC in two weeks. Check out the Bluetooth SIG here.

Nokia Skipping Symbian^2; Symbian^3 In Q3, Symbian^4 In Q4 2010 Or Q1 2011, Maemo 6 H2 2010

Labels: , , ,

If you believe what Digitimes has to say then keep on reading. Apparently, Nokia is looking to skip Symbian^2 and they're planning to go straight into Symbian^3. This is great news because Symbian^3 will be coming in Q3 of this year and it will bring multitouch gestures to a handset near you. Along with that news, Symbian^4 is expected to launch at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year. Version 4 will likely be based on Qt so that the software will support both Symbian and Maemo simultaneously.

If you're still in love with the current Symbian there's no need to worry because Symbian S60 and S40 is here to stay but they'll be owning the cheap-end of the spectrum for Nokia. We all love Maemo 5 on the Nokia N900 and the good news is that we'll see Maemo 6 by the end of this year as well - hopefully on the successor to the N900. That's some pretty good Nokia news for the week.

The latest rumour has is that the 15th of this month will be when Telus releases the Motorola Milestone. It'll be running Android 2.0 so that's great news since all of the Android handsets in Canada still run 1.5 and 1.6. The price is said to be $199.99 CAD on a 3-year contract and $549 contract-free.

BlackBerry Pearl 9100 "Striker" Spotted With T-Mobile / WIND Mobile 3G

Labels: , , , , , ,

At this point we know that RIM is working on a successor to their Pearl line-up. Next up is the "Striker" 9100 handset and it looks like it has just been spotted with T-Mobile 3G connectivity in the US which is equivalent to WIND Mobile's 3G spectrum in Canada. Earlier rumours told us that it could be the first BB with WiFi 802.11n so this is shaping up to be a pretty good BB if you can put up with that keyboard.
