First Live Photo and Somewhat Official Details of the Android-Based Motorola Calgary

Labels: , , , , , , ,

Boy Genius is back at it again, this time leaking the first live photo and spilling some details of Verizon's second Android handset, the Motorola Calgary. Clearly, this handset is running Android with MOTOBLUR. It may not be as sexy or as high-end as the Motorola Droid, but it is another Android handset from Motorola. This [plasticky-looking] handset comes packed with: a touchscreen display, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, an optical joystick, three touch-sensitive buttons, a 3MP camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS / WiFi support, and a microSD card slot. Boy Genius points out that we'll likely see a Q4 release date for this handset, of course, on Verizon.

With MOTOBLUR expect this handset to have tight social integration - targeted at teens.

Barnes & Noble Make Their Dual-Display Nook E-Book Reader Official, Pre-Orders Starting At $259 Right Now

Labels: , , , ,

Barnes & Noble has just made their Nook e-book reader official. Interestingly enough, it's the exact same e-book reader that we saw last week. The Nook has: a 6-inch e-ink display, a smaller 3.5-inch coloured touchscreen display, the Android OS, WiFi, 3G connectivity, a battery that should last around 10 days with the wireless turned off, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2GB of internal storage, and an SD card slot. Unfortunately, the WiFi will only work in their stores at launch. It looks like the Kindle has some competition. Anyways, it's now available to pre-order for $259 USD right here.

Mozilla Working On Fennec (Firefox Mobile) Browser For Android

Labels: , , , , ,

Mozilla's CEO, John Lilly, has just mentioned that they are working on getting their Fennec (Firefox Mobile) mobile browser onto the Android OS. He went on to mention that it took them this long because "Android was Java, but they just released Android NDK which uses C/C++ and that is what we program in." This is great news and we'll just have to see how Mozilla does with this.

Apple Updates AirPort Extreme and Time Capsules -- High-End 17-Inch MacBook Pro Gets $1,000 Price Cut

Labels: , , , , ,

Along with the big Apple update from this morning, it looks like they have also updated their AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule. The updated AirPort Extreme looks like it will be 25% faster than the last-gen model thanks to some tweaks in the antenna. This is available for $179 USD. Check it out on their website here.

The Time Capsule also seems to have been updated. Apple has mentioned that Time Capsule back0ups in Snow Leopard will be around 60% faster than they were before. The 1TB and 2TB models are now available for $299 USD and $499 USD, respectively. Check it out on their website here.

Update: TUAW has just mentioned that Apple has actually cut down the price on their high-end 17-inch MacBook Pro. The high-end model features: a 17-inch anti-glare display, a 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM, and a 500GB HDD. The good news here is that this will only cost $3,600 USD, which is almost $1,000 cheaper than it was yesterday.

Apple Reveals New iMacs, Plastic Unibody MacBooks, Mac Mini / Mac Mini Server, New Apple Magic Mouse and Even a Remote

Labels: , , , , , , ,

As expected Apple have just updated their iMacs, their plastic MacBooks, their Mac Mini, and have released their new Magic Mouse (replacing the Mighty Mouse). The new iMacs now come in 21.5 (1,920 x 1,080 resolution) and 27-inch (2,560 x 1,440 resolution) sizes (larger than the old 20 and 24-inch models) and they sport a 16:9 aspect ratio, an IPS panel, and a 178-degree viewing angle. These LED-backlit iMacs come packed with: Intel Core 2 Duo / Core i7 / Core i5 CPU options, an SD card, an optical drive, up to 16GB of RAM, up to a 2TB HDD, Nvidia GeForce 9400M / ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics. The 21.5 and 27-inch iMacs are now available for $1,199 USD and $1,699 USD, respectively. These new iMacs come with Apple's wireless keyboard and mouse. Yeup, no Blu-ray here. Check it on Apple's website here.

The plastic "low-end" MacBooks got a slight design overhaul now sporting a unibody design - with a curvy body. They still feature an LED-backlit display and a multitouch trackpad, so that's good. The cheapest MacBook still costs $999 USD, but will feature: a 2.26GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM (up to 8GB), Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics, and a 250GB HDD. The new MacBooks are slightly thinner than the old models and, of course, a non-swappable battery that should last 7 hours. Check it out on Apple's website here.

Apple has also decided to slightly upgrade their Mac Minis. They may look the same, but as usual it's the internal components that have changed. The new $599 Mac Mini now features: a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB of RAM, and a 160GB HDD. The higher-end $799 USD model now features: a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB HDD. Thankfully, both models also come packed with an 8x SuperDrive and the same Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics.

Apple also went on to introduce a Mac Mini server. The Mac Mini server throws away the optical drive and allow you to sub in a second hard drive. The $999 model comes packed with: two 500GB HDDs (that's 1TB in total, kiddos!), an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz CPU, 4GB of RAM, Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics, and, sadly, no DisplayPort. Check it out on Apple's website here.

The only absolutely positively new product from Apple today is what you see above: The Apple Magic Mouse - that replaces the Mighty Mouse. This Bluetooth mouse appears to have no buttons, but it actually sports a "multitouch surface." Like the MacBook trackpads, you'll be able to use multitouch gestures, but it will not feature pinch and zoom, which sucks - I guess. Apple has mentioned that this mouse will last four months and it's now available for $69.99 USD. Check it out on Apple's website here - by the way, it comes with the iMac if you choose the right option.

Update: According to Engadget, Apple has also released a new Apple remote with an aluminum body that costs $19 USD. If you're lazy enough to own this, then you'll be able to control your iPod, your iPhone, or your Mac without even touching them. If you want to control your iPod / iPhone, you'll of course have to spend another $49 on a dock. Check it out on Apple's website here.

Cube Unveils H600HDMI; 5-Inch Display, HDMI Output, 6.99mm Thin and Cheap!

Labels: , , ,

Cube has just shown off their latest PMP, the H600HDMI. This PMP is complete with: a 5-inch touchscreen display with an 800 x 480 resolution, an HDMI output, an FM radio, and support for a ton of formats. Apparently, this PMP can churn out 720p / 1080i with its HDMI output. Unfortunately, there's no WiFi and no web browsing, which is sad for some. But, if you're interested in a 6.99mm thin PMP, it's only 499 Yuan ($73 USD). Go look for it in China.

Expansys Lists the Android-Based Acer Liquid (A1) For Just 380 Euros, Launching On November 28th

Labels: , , , , ,

Although there's been the debate on whether this handset has a 768MHz or a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU not even Expansys listing of the handset could confirm it. Instead, they played it safe with a "Qualcomm Snapdragon" listing - not mentioning the speed.

Anyways, what's important here is that Expansys has their listing for this handset already. Expansys now has the Acer Liquid (A1) available for €379.99 ($568 USD) on pre-orders, but they do mention that it will be available on November 18th. That's definitely not bad for what you're getting - in fact I'd get one if I had the money. Check out the listing here!

Gizmodo Reviews the Jabra Stone Bluetooth Headset, Launching For $130 On November 8th At AT&T

Labels: , , , , ,

Remember the Jabra Stone? Well, it looks like Gizmodo has somewhat reviewed that Bluetooth headset. I won't spoil anything for ya, but they do mention that it's quite expensive at $130 USD and that it will be available starting on November 8th at your local AT&T store. Jabra likely picked the "Stone" name because it looks like a small pebble when it is attached to its dock. Anyways, check out their somewhat full review here.

After Two Days AT&T Is Already Sold Out Of the HTC Tilt 2?

Labels: , , , ,

This is a bit of a shocker. Although it was understandable why the HTC Touch Pro 2 sold out on Verizon (just $199 compared to the other carriers' high prices), it looks like AT&T could also be running low or are actually already sold out of the handset - they launched it as the Tilt 2. This handset just launched two days ago, so that's pretty awesome that their is a pretty high demand on it. It's either that or AT&T just didn't have a lot of Tilt 2's to begin with.

AT&T Looking To Launch the HTC Hero In Early 2010?

Labels: , , , , ,

Although there's not much proof to back this up, the latest rumour states that AT&T will be launching the old-school looking HTC Hero in early 2010. The "tipster" claims to have a friend working for AT&T and he told him that. Luckily, we do know that the Hero has already passed the FCC with AT&T compatible 3G bands so it's always possible.

The first Microsoft store is launching in Arizona this Thursday, October 22nd and now it looks like Microsoft has just confirmed that the second Microsoft store will be launching on October 29th in Mission Viejo. This store in California should generally have the same events as the first store in Arizona. California will be lucky enough to have Justin Bieber performing and the first 1,000 people are getting free tickets. Awesome stuff.

T-Mobile USA Not Launching the Nokia N900; Likely the Nokia N97 Mini On the Way

Labels: , , , ,

Unfortunately, it looks like that news about T-Mobile USA launching the Nokia N900 may have been false. Project Black / Project Dark is said to be an announcement for their Even More / Even More Plus plans and their new FlexPay systems. We do know though, that T-Mobile is not going to stop there - at least that's what we want to believe. We've heard that they are going to launch two Nokia handsets that are a part of their N-Series. While it may not be the Nokia N900, we're now hearing that it may be the Nokia N97 Mini, but it's still unconfirmed right now.

First Verizon Motorola Droid (Sholes / Tao) Accessory Spotted

Labels: , , , , , , ,

This is likely one of the first shots we've seen of any type of accessory for the unreleased Verizon Motorola Droid (Sholes / Tao / A855). There's really not much to say here, but like Verizon themselves said in their ad, we should be expecting a launch in November.

T-Mobile Launching the Tap on November 11th and the Samsung Behold 2 On November 18th

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

It looks like this leaked screenshot tells us that the Samsung Behold 2 will be launching on November 18th via T-Mobile. This Android-based handset should be pretty desirable with its: 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, microSD card slot, and 5MP AF camera.

The other handset that looks like it will get launched is the T-Mobile Tap. We heard about this handset just a couple of weeks ago and we know that it is the Huawei U7510. This handset looks like it will be debuting on T-Mobile as early as November 11th.
