uSmart Unveils M1C, a 4.8-Inch MID With an Ugly Keyboard

Labels: , , , ,

It looks like uSmart has just revealed a tiny MID, dubbed the M1C. This MID is really small - as you can see in the picture with the HTC Hero at its side - but still manages to pack: a 4.8-inch display with a 480 x 800 resolution, an Intel Atom Z530 CPU, integrated GMA500 graphics, an HDMI output, and Linux / Windows XP / Vista / 7 OS options. I'd love to see how this MID performs with Vista on it, that would be a ball.

Acer Officially Announce Liquid (A1) Handset, 768MHz Snapdragon CPU With Android OS 1.6 "Donut"

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Woah, woah, woah. I don't know whether the above photo is a real photo of the device, since I could swear that's an Acer neoTouch (F1). Anyways, Acer has just officially announced the Acer Liquid (A1) that utilizes the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and Android OS 1.6 "Donut"! They also mention that it'll have tight integration with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Picasa, and Flickr. Check out what Acer had to say below.

Update: According to Unwired View, what you see above is a hands-on photo with the Acer Liquid.

Update on October 15th: According to GSM Arena, this handset actually has a 768MHz Qualcomm 8250 Snapdragon CPU - so it's not the 1GHz one. This handset will also be available in black, red, and white.

Update on October 18th: A lot of different sites are reporting different things, so it could either be a 1GHz or a 768MHz CPU. We'll see what happens when it all goes down.

According to the reports, Motorola is looking to create eight phones running on OPhone - yes, eight. Unfortunately, we don't have any details on any of these handsets, so we'll have to see what happens later this year - or early next year.

Mobinnova Changes the Name of the Elan To "Beam", Still the Same Ol' Smartbook

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Yes, Mobinnova has changed the name of their Elan smartbook to the "Beam." Besides the name change it appears to be the same old smartbook with its Windows CE And all. The internal Nvidia Tegra chipset will allow you to watch 720p video and will feature graphics-accelerated Flash. They have kept their claims of a long-battery life, so they mentioned that it'll last 24 hours of audio / 5 to 10 hours of HD video - I'll believe it when I see it. Below is Laptop Mag's one-on-one chat with Mobinnova's CTO, Mark Anderson.

What’s the benefit of having Windows CE as the backbone of this device?

What Windows CE brings is a pretty mature embedded OS, so you have a pretty large development community you can tap into. It has good sleep modes, so the power savings is better than what you’d get on a (full) Windows device. This was something that Nvidia and our manufacturing partners really drove.

Will there be an app store?

Initially, no, there won’t be an app store. We’re really defining the experience in terms of what apps are included and which ones are not. It’s really more of an appliance than an open platform. But there will be some apps online that you can buy. There will be some games that you’ll be able to download.

If this device can play back 720p video, where are users going to get the content from?

You’ll be able to stream, download, or sideload. There’s a video and music player built in that supports DRM. It supports Windows Media. We’ll have announements about content partners at CES as well.

What sort of flexibility are you giving the carrier to support and promote their own services on this device?

Those are discussions that we’re having with our partners and it’s something that we definitely encourage in the sense of being able to plug into an existing ecosystem. So we’ll just have to wait and see.

Will the Beam have integrated GPS and can you use it as a navigation device?

We won’t have navigation software on it so I’d say no. You could go to Google Maps and navigate that way, but GPS is really there to add location to something you might be doing like Facebook.

60 bucks a month is a lot to pay for something that doesn’t run full Windows. Will there be other pricing plans for this device?

We should wait until the announcements are made. But I agree in general that there should be more flexibility in pricing plans. And I certainly expect that to happen.

Chinese K1850 All In One PC Says Its Using Intel's Pine Trail Dual-Core D510 Atom CPU

Labels: , , , ,

Well, it looks like a Chinese PC maker is planning to release the K1850 with Intel's new Pine Trail Atom CPUs already. The K1850 appears to have an Intel Atom Dual-Core D510 CPU, which actually shouldn't be much faster than the current Dual-Core Atom 330 CPU, but it should save much more power. Other specs include: an 18.5-inch display, a 250GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, an optical DVD drive, and WiFi support. We don't know the release details right now, but as soon as I get them I'll tell you.

Barnes & Noble's Dual-Screen E-Book Reader Pictured? - Also Has Multi-Touchscreen?

It has the potential to be a Kindle killer. The official announcement appears to be taking place on October 20th, so we shouldn't have to wait too long.

Acer hasn't stopped unveiling new products yet and here's another one from them. This all-in-one PC will also be bundled with their own wireless keyboard and mouse set. This PC will be available closer to Christmas for $899.99 USD. Check out what Acer had to say below.

Acer Aspire Z5610 All-in-One PC, A Cut Above in Style, Performance and Multi-Touch Technology
Delivers a rich, interactive computing experience in an elegant design to U.S. customers
IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 14, 2009 – Acer, the third largest vendor in the worldwide PC market, today announced the Acer Aspire Z5610-U9072, a truly elegant, no-compromise all-in-one desktop PC featuring intuitive multi-touch technology and Windows 7 Home Premium. A powerful entertainment hub for the home, the Z5610 packs first-class performance and feature-rich functionality in a striking design. It will be available this holiday season at online retailers for an attractive price of $899.99.
Engineered to eliminate clutter and maximize workspace, this practical all-in-one streamlines the home or office with a flash of style and offers a unique blend of features and architecture. Boasting a stunning 23-inch HD display, ATI Mobility Radeon™ graphics and Intel® Pentium® Dual Core processing, the Aspire Z5610 offers world-class digital prowess.
“Our Aspire Z5610 all-in-one is a beautiful blend of visual elegance, state-of-the-art technology and premium performance,” said Susan Hu, desktop product manager for Acer America. “The intuitive touch-screen with Windows 7 multi-touch capability brings new excitement and hands-on efficiency to digital media applications. Packaged in a powerful platform, it will deliver fun and productivity for years to come.”
“We are excited about working with PC manufacturers like Acer to offer users a great new way to interact with their PC running Windows 7,” said Michelle Haven, product manager for Windows Touch at Microsoft Corp. “With Windows 7, multi-touch support is built right into the operating system, so users with a touch-screen PC like the Acer Aspire Z5610 can now interact with their PC in an easy and intuitive way, simply by reaching out and touching the screen.”
Intuitive Multi-Touch Display
Featuring 1920×1080 pixel resolution, the 23-inch HD 16:9 TFT display enhances games, Internet surfing and more with ultra-sharp, colorful imagery. Intuitive multi-touch technology brings an entirely new level of control to the computer user. In the past, the touch experience has been limited to one-finger touch capability. With multi-touch, users can intuitively interact with the PC using multiple fingers as they would a mouse. They can open and close programs, browse online newspapers, flick through photo albums and shuffle files and folders, using nothing but their hands.

Windows 7 is the first Windows operating system to fully embrace multi-touch technology. To zoom in on an image or map, users just need to place two fingers on the screen and spread them apart. To right click a file, users simply touch it with one finger and tap the screen with a second. The integrated multi-touch technology enables more gesture combinations and functionality than single-touch screens for a faster and more intuitive digital experience.
Premium Performance
Comprised of powerful desktop components, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM upgradeable to 8GB and a 320GB SATA hard disk for storing a huge multimedia library, the Z5610 is a no-compromise desktop solution. Discrete ATI Mobility Radeon graphics display images in vivid color and sharp detail, while Intel® Pentium® Dual Core processors fuel the system with significant power.

For dynamic audio, 5.1-channel surround sound is delivered via an integrated 5W stereo speaker system. With ports for headphones, microphones and other audio peripherals, users can immerse themselves in their favorite high-def music and movies. DVD movies and other files from a digital camera or videocam can be enjoyed with the slot load DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive for archiving media.
The Acer Aspire Z5610 provides a fast network connection with 802.11b/g/Draft-N wireless and Gigabit Ethernet. It also has a built-in HD webcam and microphone for videoconferencing with family and friends.
Aesthetic State-of-the-Art Design
The combination of style, top-of-the-line desktop components and touch technology make this PC a powerful entertainment hub for the home. Inspired by high-end digital entertainment, the Aspire Z5610 is an elegant PC that bridges the gap between traditional desktops and monitors. A seamless integration of a desktop PC with the usability of a multi-touch LCD display, it’s an easy fit for any
living room, den or office.
Designed as a timeless piece, the Z5610 boasts simple purposeful details such as an illuminated strip between the LCD and sound bar, which helps users see the keyboard in a darkened environment. The system’s clean and simple lines emphasize the ease and simplicity of the user’s PC experience. Elevated by two chrome legs, users can discretely stow away the keyboard under the desktop to further free up workspace and maximize the system’s multi-touch capabilities.
Innovative Software
In addition to Windows 7 Home Premium, the Aspire Z5610 also comes with Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7, a set of six multi-touch optimized applications and games. These include three casual games, Microsoft Blackboard, Microsoft Garden Pond and Microsoft Rebound and three surface applications – Microsoft Surface Globe that lets users browse the world and zoom in on any location on a virtual 3D earth; Microsoft Surface Collage, a touch-enabled background and Microsoft Surface Lagoon, a touch interactive screensaver.

In addition, the Aspire Z5610 offers Acer TouchSuite, an integrated touch interface that syncs the PC and Internet with fingertip precision. Acer TouchSuite makes it easy to browse and enjoy social networking and digital media of all types. Users simply go to the Acer TouchPortal to activate Acer Touch Gadgets, which include:

Nokia Already Working On N920 With Maemo 6?

Labels: , ,

Although what you see above may not be a real picture (it could be a prototype though), the latest rumour states that Nokia is already working on the successor to their N900 - the N920. The N920 could be running on Maemo 6 and should also be available sometime next year. The N920 will be outed without a slide-out QWERTY keyboard like the N900. Other details haven't been mentioned yet, so just look out for them in the coming months or so.

Microsoft Already Secured ATI Graphics For Their Next Xbox?

Labels: , , , , , , ,

According to the latest rumour, the next Xbox will be powered by ATI's graphics and, apparently, both Sony and Microsoft plan to release their next-gen consoles in 2012. Sony has mentioned several times that the PS3 has a 10-year life span and we're sure they'll live up to that even if they release the Play Station 4. The rumour states that Microsoft "is happy" with sticking to ATI graphics because it will give them compatibility with their older games.
