Motorola CLIQ Hits T-Mobile's Website For Free -- Then Gets Pulled -- Back Up Again, But "Coming Soon"

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

This afternoon, Motorola officially announced the Motorola CLIQ / DEXT with MOTOBLUR. Well, what you do know, a couple of hours later it was spotted on T-Mobile's own website for free on a 2-year contract or $399.99 USD off-contract, which seems to me like a great deal - if it's true that is. Unfortunately, it was pulled shortly after, so we'll just have to wait for the official release, which will probably be sooner rather than later.

Update on September 11th: According to Tmo Today, the Motorola CLIQ is back on T-Mobile's website again. This time it has a "Coming Soon" badge and the price isn't mentioned. You can check out both colours on their website here - for the Winter White edition - and here - for the Midnight Titanium edition.

LG Releases Three LH Series HDTVs

Labels: , ,

What a coincidence. The day after we hear about Sony's XBR10 HDTV, LG has decided to officially announced the availability of their own 55LHX LCD HDTV. This HDTV - like the XBR10 - will stream "1080p from a wireless source, plays 24p content and has 240Hz" technology. The good thing here is that the 55LHX is LED-backlit, which is typically better than side-lit LED TVs, and it also comes with an 80,000:1 contrast ratio. This TV is less than one-inch thick and is available for $4,799 USD.

LG also mentioned their LG LH85 series HDTVs as well. The 47 and 55-inch models will be available for $2,399 and $3,199 USD, respectively. Check out what LG had to say below.

LG ELECTRONICS BROADENS HOME ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS
WITH TWO NEW WIRELESS HDTV SERIES
Wireless LCD HDTVs Offer Flexible and Convenient Custom Installation Options
ATLANTA, Sept. 10, 2009 – Offering diverse integration options for custom installers, LG Electronics is highlighting its first-ever series of wireless LCD HDTVs, including an LED model, this week at the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) EXPO 2009 (Booth #2623).
Whether it's design, technology or screen size, LG's wireless HDTVs have something for everyone, according to Peter Reiner, senior vice president, marketing, LG Electronics USA, Inc. LG's 55-inch class* Slim Wireless LED-Backlight HDTV (model 55LHX) combines advanced technology with cutting-edge style for a TV that blends beautifully into any home environment. For those seeking a variety of design options, LG's LH85 series of wireless LCD HDTVs will be available in 47- and 55-inch class* sizes.
"As custom installers look to create a truly unique space, the wireless capability found in the 55LHX and LH85 models allow the freedom to place the HDTV anywhere in the room," said Reiner. "With wireless HDTVs, LG continues to expand home entertainment design and placement options to meet consumers' ever evolving needs."
Entertainment Freedom
Both 55LHX and LH85 wireless models allow installers the freedom to place the HDTV virtually anywhere in the room – without messy wires. To achieve this wireless experience, LG uses a supplied media box to transmit an uncompressed Full HD 1080p signal with virtually no interference or delay directly to the TV. The HDTVs can receive a wireless signal up to 30 feet away, allowing consumers to hook all content sources (such as a cable or satellite box, Blu-ray disc player, game console and home theater systems) into one box.
Enhanced Picture Quality
The 55-inch LHX model features superior picture quality with an elegant ultra-slim design – less than one-inch thick at its thinnest point. This unit has attained THX Display Certification. This certification ensures that the 55LHX delivers exceptional images, bringing a more immersive and enjoyable movie, broadcast and video game experience to consumers' living room. Since THX certification begins during the initial product design phase, every product detail is meticulously mapped to THX standards and tested in laboratory and home theater environments to ensure quality, usability and compatibility.
By presenting HD and standard-definition content at the maximum resolution with the correct color and luminance level, the LHX provides consumers a crisper, clearer image. To achieve this, LG uses a full-array LED backlighting system with local dimming technology, for precise picture control resulting in deeper blacks, wide color gamut and an incredible 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. This model also incorporates TruMotion 240Hz technology for smooth motion during fast-action scenes.
LG's LH85 series delivers an 80,000:1 contrast ratio for deeper blacks and greater picture detail. Additionally, the LH85 series features LG's 24p Real Cinema technology that allows consumers to enjoy a true cinematic experience at home, the way the movie was intended to be seen. For those that want more from their HDTV, the LH85 also includes USB 2.0 functionality allowing easy access to MP3 files and viewing of JPEG photos for a more enjoyable TV viewing experience.
ISFccc Calibration Options
Those seeking advanced calibration based on their own home theater environment, will appreciate LG's ISFccc option on both the 55LHX and LH85 series. The professional ISF calibration helps to deliver picture quality, representing what filmmakers intended viewers to see.
Using the LG Expert Mode, an ISF-certified calibration technician will use professional equipment to calibrate the HDTV using ISF parameters based upon individual home theater environments and ambient lighting. Once calibrated to the optimal setting, the calibrations are saved as ISF "Day" and ISF "Night" modes. With ISFccc, LG offers a superior 10-point calibration. This provides an extra level of precision for gray scale calibration resulting in a more uniform picture.
Energy Savings
With Intelligent Sensor, both wireless models automatically optimize the picture to the lighting conditions in the room for a personalized and more enjoyable viewing experience; and potential energy savings. Both the LHX and LH85 series are Energy Star 3.0 compliant, and with LG's "Smart Energy Saving" package, which consists of features such as backlight control options and video mute, LG further paves the way toward greater energy savings, while also allowing consumers to customize their viewing experience.
The 55LHX will be available soon at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $4,799 and the LH85 series will be available later this Fall in 55- and 47-inch class* screen sizes with MSRPs of $3,199 and $2,399, respectively.

JVC Launching $175,000 110-Pound Projector This October

Labels: , ,

JVC has just announced a new projector that is more expensive than my house - it's almost 2 times as expensive - the DLA-RS4000 and it weighs 110 pounds. This projector basically has movie theater capabilities. This will project a 12 to 21-foot image on your wall with a 10MP (4,096 x 2,400 resolution), has 3,500 lumens of brightness, and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. "So you can watch movies at 4K, assuming you can make a deal with the devil and acquire digital cinema files that hover in the resolution range. Of you could allow your 1080P Blu-rays to be unconverted. Or-and JVC actually endorses this use-you could watch four 1080P signals at once." This projector is expected to launch next month - October - for $175,000 USD. Check out what JVC had to say below.

JVC INTRODUCES DLA-RS4000 HIGH-END 4K
HOME CINEMA PROJECTOR AT CEDIA EXPO 2009
WAYNE, NJ (September 10, 2009) – JVC Visual Systems Division introduces its new DLA-RS4000 Reference Series 4K home cinema projector at CEDIA Expo, September. 10-13 at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta. The system is being showcased in the JVC D-ILA Theater in the Omni Hotel North Tower throughout the duration of the CEDIA Expo. Based on the same projection engine used in advanced simulation systems, it provides the superior imagery as well as installation flexibility required by uncompromising home theater consumers. This system is ISF and THX* certified.
Three newly developed ultra high definition 4K2K D-ILA devices allow the DLA-RS4000 to deliver a 10 megapixel image with a native resolution of 4,096 x 2,400—more than four times the resolution of HD. Up to four screens with full HD or WUXGA resolution images can be displayed simultaneously .
A new optical design provides 3500 ANSI lumens from a Xenon lamp and delivers excellent color rendering. Lamp power can be adjusted in eight steps for the ideal brightness for a variety of home theater settings and screen sizes. In addition, new Wire Grid polarizers in the optical engine that minimize light leakage are combined with new liquid crystal technology and a novel liquid crystal orientation to significantly reduce off-state light, resulting in a 10,000:1 native contrast ratio.
The RSVP4 custom digital video processing unit serves as a signal switching, scaling and processing hub for virtually any video source, including Blu-ray and gaming systems, cable and satellite receivers, and DVD players. The RSVP4 has a special feature enabling certified calibration specialists to calibrate either of two custom gamut memories based on the installation's specific requirements. This enables each system to achieve an accurate color space for the source material being shown. Other features include audio delay compensation, and three separate gamma tables for customization of various image sources and viewing environments. The DLA-RS4000 is shipped complete with a JVC high quality projection zoom lens to maximize performance in almost any home theater setting.
Despite its advanced performance, the 110-pound DLA-RS4000 achieves a 65 percent reduction in size compared to conventional projectors in the same class. Generous horizontal and vertical lens shift capabilities permit flexible projector positioning, and its stackable design allows for applications such as 3D. Ethernet and RS-232C interfaces allow projector installation and adjustment from a PC-based Web browser for multiple units, plus an e-mail function can send out status messages and lamp replacement reminders.
"The DLA-RS4000 4K projector is the ultimate projector for discerning home theater enthusiasts," said Jack Faiman, vice president, Visual Systems Division, JVC U.S.A.. "Not only does it produce amazing images for movies, sports, and video games, but its smaller footprint and incredible flexibility make it the ideal premium home theater projector for custom installations. Plus, despite all its high-end features, its user-friendly interface makes it easy to sit back and enjoy the view."
The DLA-RS-4000 projector has a suggested list price of $175,000 and will be available October 2009.

In the middle of last month we heard about a 250GB PS3 Slim that passed the FCC. Well, that rumour seems to be picking up because according to Eurogamer, "a trusted retail source" has just mentioned that they will be releasing a 250GB PS3 Slim model in the UK as a part of a bundle as early as next month. The bundle could include Assassin's Creed II, Gran Turismo 5 or Uncharted 2.

The bundle will reportedly be priced at £230 ($380 USD).

Microsoft Releases Thin Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard and Number Pad For $90 and $50

Labels: , , ,

Microsoft has just announced and released their Bluetooth Mobile keyboard and number pad. As you can see, they're both really thin and they actually look pretty sleek. Although I still prefer the Logitech Wave, this keyboard takes a close second place. The keyboard is now available for $90 and the number pad is another $50. Check it out on Microsoft's official website here.

Nokia Not Allowing Carriers To Customize N900 -- They Lied; Maemo 6 To Have Multitouch and Gestures

Labels: , , , ,

Nokia is planning to launch their N900 smartphone to carriers eventually, but they have decided that they will be the boss of the relationship. According to Nokia themselves, they won't allow "carrier customization" on their Maemo-based handset.

Update: According to Electronista, Nokia changed their mind and mentioned that there are "many customization points" that carriers will have access to. Check out exactly what Nokia had to say here.

The N900 is running Maemo 5, so I figured it would be a great addition to talk about the future of Maemo on this post. Nokia has confirmed that Qt 4.6 "will be optimized for Maemo 6 but also see a port to the upcoming Symbian 4, as well as bringing with it improvements to the WebKit browser and a reduction in the need for widgets.". Maemo 6 is expected to launch next year and it looks like it will have multitouch and gesture support, which will be a great addition to those devices.

Update on September 12th: According to an angry tweet I received, the Maemo 5 browser is actually not based on WebKit. So, maybe Maemo 6's will be. We'll just have to wait and see.
