BFG To Release Phobos Gaming PC With Intel's New Core i7 950 and Core i7 975 CPUs

Labels: , , ,

Intel hasn't officially launched the 2 new Core i7's (950 / 975), but BFG is going to release their new Phobos gaming PCs with these 2 CPUs built right in. The Phobos Advanced will have the Core i7 950 and the Phobos Elite will have the Core i7 975. Along with the two new CPUs, these gaming PCs will also have one-touch CPU and GPU overclocking, also found in their Gaming / Home Theatre PC that was announced 2 months ago, thanks to the touch-panel on the front of the tower. The tower also has an iPhone / iPod dock on the top of the tower, so that's useful for just about everyone out there. The Phobos Advanced is up for order right now for $5,000 USD and the Phobos Elite starts at $8,000 USD, so they're definitely not cheap. Check both of the PCs here at BFG Technologies official website.

Sony Ericsson Choosing MicroSD Over Memory Stick Pro

Labels: , , , ,

With the PSP Go, Sony has ditched UMD and now it looks like Sony Ericsson will ditch Memory Stick Pro in favour of microSD. A couple of days ago, we heard about the Sony Ericsson Satio, Yari, and Aino and they are all equipped with microSD slots. "Sony Ericsson Global Marketing Director Fortune Alexander did say that the company is 'moving in that direction.'" It looks like this is the future and it's a great step for Sony Ericsson - maybe this is a step towards picking up revenue. They've still got a long way to go.

New iPhone Expected In A Bunch Of Different Capacities, 4 - 32GB; Fido Offering $99 iPhone 3G

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

A lot of people are expecting Apple to announce the next iPhone at next month's WWDC. According to a trusted source, the next iPhone will come in a bunch of flavours, including 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models. We'll see how true these rumours are in the near future.

According to the latest Fido ninja, they will be offering a 4GB iPhone 3G for just $99, but - unfortunately - on a 3-year contract. People are calling it a fake, but it doesn't really matter to me. The only reason why this could be true is because of the next iPhone announcement just over a month away. On a side note, the 4GB iPhone will have: quad-band EDGE, tri-band HSDPA, a 2MP camera, and iChat video calling. Besides the 4GB iPhone there are other phones on the list, including the BlackBerry Curve 8320, the Nokia E71, the Nokie E55, etc. Check out the link below, for more information.

Final Fantasy XIII Scheduled For Spring 2010 Release On The Xbox 360

Labels: , , , , ,

Square Enix announced this afternoon that Final Fantasy XIII will be out for the Xbox 360 in Spring 2010. I don't know how accurate the release date is, but that is a fair target date. But wait, they never announced the Play Station 3 release date, why? Looks like we'll have to wait for that then, but I hope it's around the same time.

Toshiba Announces NB205 Netbook

Labels: , ,

The successor to the Toshiba Mini NB200 netbook is now here. Today, Toshiba announced their latest netbook, the NB205, which doesn't look too bad. It has: 10.1-inch LED-backlit display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, a 6-cell battery (said to last 9.5 hours), 1GB of RAM, an Atom 1.66GHz N280 CPU, a 160GB HDD, and a chiclet keyboard. Toshiba thankfully didn't choose the glossy look, but instead opted for the matte plastic finish which, I think, is better.

The NB205 also has: 3 USB 2.0 slots, an SD card slot, audio in/out, VGA output, 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, Ethernet, and also an option for an internal mini PCI Express / ExpressCard slot. One of the superb features of the NB205 is the ability to charge USB devices (like an iPod), even if it is in sleep mode. This netbook is going to start shipping in Q3 of this year for $349 USD, but it won't have the chiclet keyboard or Bluetooth, so that could be a disappointment to some. Check out the link below for a full review of the Toshiba NB205.

Samsung's Production-Ready 14.1 and 31-Inch OLED TVs

Labels: , , ,

This week there are a bunch of conferences going on: E3, Computex 2009, and don't forget about SID 2009. At SID this year, Samsung has just shown off their "production-ready" AMOLED TV sets, measuring in at 14.1 and 31-inches. It's the first OLED TV to have a Full HD display (1,920 x 1,080 resolution), a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a "color gamut of over 100 percent NTSC" (I don't know what that means). This display is just 8.9mm thin, which is thinner than my pinky finger. We'll see when this gets released and how much it will cost in the future.

Qualcomm Reveals First Smartbooks At Computex 2009

Labels: , , ,

Lately, netbooks have moved to the side and have made way for what Qualcomm is calling the smartbook. What you see above may look like an Asus netbook, but it's actually an Eee PC running on Qualcomm's Snapdragon CPUs and are said to be the first smartbooks that will be available by the end of 2009 - along with Wistron and Inventec's own models. I have no clue, how smartbooks will compete against netbooks, but with the Snapdragon CPU I'm sure they can put up a good fight. Specs will include at least: 3G, WWAN, GPS, and an "all-day battery life." Maybe I'll be rocking a smartbook instead of a netbook in University this year, we'll just have to see how long the battery lasts. I can't wait for the end of this year: Starcraft II, smartbooks, new Android handsets... how could this year get any better? For more pictures, check out the link below.

Olidata Conte Is Slim, Specs Don't Upset

Labels: , , , ,

Olidata (an Italian manufacturer) has just showed off their 13.3-inch LED-backlit Conte notebook. Besides the magnificent display it also has: a couple of CPU choices (SU2700 / Core Solo SU3500 / Core 2 Duo SL9400), a 120GB HDD / 128GB SSD, 3GB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI out, and possible 3G connectivity. The trackpad supports multitouch and sports a fingerprint reader.

The Conte measures in at 10mm at its thinnest point and weighs 1.6kg, which isn't too heavy. Believe it or not, but this notebook also has a built-in accelerometer, just in case you wanted to flip it sideways. This notebook has a base price of €799 ($1,129 USD), but for the top specs you're looking at €1,299 ($1,835 USD), which isn't too cheap.

Video of Android Running On An Eee PC With Snapdragon CPU

Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Android and Snapdragon looks like they may have a bright future - possibly even together. This video (below) shows off an Asus Eee PC running Android with a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, which is impressive seeing how Snapdragon already has their 1.5GHz dual-CPUs already available and the 1.3GHz model in the near future. This Asus Eee PC running Android is just a prototype, but manages to work perfectly fine without a fan, thanks to the CPU having such a low-power consumption. Just in case that wasn't enough, the Snapdragon CPU is also powerful enough to pump out 720p HD video. Simply amazing.

Labels: , , , , , ,

With all the hype about E3 kicking off today don't forget that Computex is starting tomorrow, which means a busy day for all the bloggers out there - including me. Computex doesn't officially start until tomorrow, but the guys over at Engadget took this shot of the Asus EEE PC 1101HA. This laptop (notebook / netbook?) has: an 11.6-inch display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution, a battery said to last 11 hours (I'll believe it when I see it), Intel's Atom Z520 / Z530 CPU (starting the next wave?), 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, 3 USB 2.0 slots, and a multicard reader. The 6-cell battery could come in 2 different flavours (2220mAh / 2800mAh), but it hasn't been confirmed yet. I promise you'll hear more about this laptop in the very near future.

Samsung Develop WVGA 800 x 480 AMOLED Display

Labels: ,

Yes, folks! OLED is slowly making its way to the high-end smartphone / PMP market. Samsung's latest AMOLED display has an 800 x 480 resolution (WVGA) with improved brightness. This is truly impressive when you look at the Zune HD's AMOLED display, which has a mere 480 x 272 resolution display. No word on when these will get mass produced, but we could see it implemented on a future Samsung device - hopefully by the end of the year!

Starcraft 2 Confirmed To Be Released By The End Of This Year!!!

Labels: , , ,

According to Blizzard's Mike Morhaime, Starcraft II will be out by the end of this year. The beta is starting this Summer and the actual game will be released by the end of this year, as long as it meets their "standards and the expectations of our [Blizzard's] players." I simply cannot wait for this to get released, I'll definitely be camping out in front of Best Buy for this game. I can't wait to get my hands-on this, I think I'll live tweet that event. By the way, this was mentioned at E3 so this is definitely a good great start.

Google Expects 18-20 Android Handsets Out By The End Of The Year

Labels: ,

At Google I/O, Andy Rubin announced that he expects 18 to 20 Android-based handsets to be available by the end of the year. Besides that, he also pointed out 3 different Android versions that will be released.

  • Google-free: Free to download version of Android without Google applications like Gmail or Google Calendar. Access to Android applications is at the whimsical fancy of the manufacturer.

  • Strings attached: Same as above but manufacturers sign a distribution agreement with Google and pre-install the Google applications. Of Rubin's possible 20 phones, 12 to 14 fall into this category

  • The Google Experience: Phones featuring the Google logo with all Google apps installed and includes unrestricted access (neither the carrier nor handset maker can block applications they find objectionable) to the Android market. 5 or 6 of the 20, Android phone mentioned by Rubin will deliver the full Google Experience as god and Sergey designed it.

  • I can't wait to see all of the future Android handsets, because we've only seen about 6 or 7 different handsets so far.

Microsoft Zune HD Set For a September 5th Release Date?

    Labels: ,

So much for the Fall release date of the Microsoft Zune HD. Paul Thurrott - the Windows expert - has been told that the Zune HD will start shipping on September 5th of this year, which is just before Fall. Looks like Microsoft is going to try to get their PMP on the market before Apple takes the whole cake with their refreshed iPod Touch rumoured to be set for later this year - possibly Fall. The September 5th release date is not confirmed, so don't be surprised if the date gets changed.
