Acer Aspire One D250 and 751h Finally on Sale in North America

Labels: , , , , ,

Finally! The Acer Aspire One D250 - that has already been available in Germany and the Philippines - and the Aspire One 751h - that has already been available in Europe - is finally available here in North America. The Aspire One D250 is now available for just $298 USD and the Aspire One 751h is now available for $380 USD. The two Aspire One's are available in a couple of colours, like Diamond Black, Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, and Seashell White. These netbooks are actually launching less expensive than what I originally thought they would, especially the D250. At under $300, it seems like a really good deal. Take a look at what Acer had to say below, courtesy of Engadget. The full spec sheet is also mentioned, so be sure not to skip it.

                      Acer Debuts Industry's First 11.6-inch Aspire One Netbook;
Part of Thinner, Lighter Second-Generation Line

New 11.6-inch Model Delivers Mobile Productivity with Largest Netbook Display, Full-Sized Keyboard; This and New 10.1-inch Model Provide Continuous Internet Access, Enhanced Battery Life
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 18, 2009 – Acer America, part of the world's third largest PC company, today extends its industry-leading line of netbooks with two new models optimized for mobile customers – the industry's first 11.6-inch Acer Aspire One AO751h and the 10.1-inch Acer Aspire One AOD250.

The new Aspire One AO751h lets customers attain a new level of productivity and efficiency with its large 11.6-inch high-definition screen and full-sized keyboard. Thinner than previous generation netbooks, the AO751h still comes with all the same easy-to-use features, sophisticated design and incredibly portable form factor that have made Acer netbooks so wildly popular. The netbook's large 11.6-inch high-definition LED-backlit widescreen (16:9 ratio) display is large enough to easily view multiple windows and reduces the need to scroll to view Internet sites, providing a better end user experience. Plus, the full size keyboard is easier and more comfortable to use, even for touch-typists.

"As the worldwide leader in the netbook market, we designed our new 11.6-inch AO751h after careful consideration about how customers use and most enjoy their netbooks," said Sumit Agnihotry, vice president of product management for Acer America. "We predict that the larger display and keyboard will be a game-changer for mobile consumers looking to take it to the next level with the ultimate mobile device."

Acer is the global market share leader in the netbook category with 30.5 percent marketshare with 1.8 million units shipped in Q1 2009 according to DisplaySearch2. The company will deliver these new offerings in the U.S. through its extensive network of retailers and distributors.

In addition, the Acer Aspire One AOD250 will satisfy the demands of mobile consumers who want a compact, light-weight netbook for Internet access and communications. With a 10.1-inch display and a thinner and lighter design than its predecessor, this new netbook is ideal for anyone on the go.

Agnihotry added, "These two new Acer Aspire One offerings will satisfy the needs of today's extremely diverse mobile users – from professionals who need a streamlined, highly mobile form factor to students who want a productivity-enhancing large keyboard and display. In all cases, Aspire One customers get a reliable, easy-to-use, stylish device that will let them remain connected."

The new Acer Aspire Ones models offer the ultimate in mobile Internet connectivity. They can provide continuous access to the Internet via WiFi 802.11b/g to browse websites, check email, make VOIP calls, and enjoy online music. In addition, Acer Aspire One netbooks are the ideal device for the millions of people who are using the latest social networking platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to give them a quick and easy way to post updates, send tweets, view and respond to video links, and stay connected. Select Acer Aspire One models come with the option for 3G broadband wireless connectivity.

Consumers can enjoy being productive and staying in touch even longer with the new Acer Aspire One netbooks; they deliver exceptional everyday battery life. The extended 6-cell battery for the AO751h can provide uptime of up to eight hours, while the 3-cell battery can provide four hours of uptime.2 The AO250's standard 3-cell battery can provide up to three hours and 15 minutes of battery life, while the 6-cell battery can provide up to six hours.2 The new devices use the latest Intel® Atom™ processors (N270 on the AOD250 and N270 or Z520 on the AO751h) that further extend battery life and power efficiency to deliver excellent mobile performance and Internet connections on the go.

Sleek, Eye-Catching Design is Highly Portable, Useful

The new Acer Aspire One models have been designed to be even more streamlined than their sales-leading predecessors; they now measure only one inch thin. The sleek aerodynamic design includes elegant touches such as the color-rich chassis choices (Diamond Black, Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue and Seashell White) along with the metallic hinge with a colored accent. Both models weigh less than three pounds (2.75 pounds for the AO751h and 2.44 pounds for the AO250), so they won't weigh down a compact backpack or purse.

The Acer Aspire One AO751h uses a clever Multi-Gesture Touchpad that allows users to pinch, flick and swirl their fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites such as Google Earth. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows users to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more. Both new models feature a soft-touch palm rest to increase typing comfort.

Packed with Additional Performance Features

The Aspire One AO751h has a high definition WXGA 11.6-inch CrystalBrite™ LED backlit display, offers the largest viewing area on a netbook. The Aspire One AO250's large 10.1-inch WSVGA LED backlit display also includes a large viewing area for Web page navigation and reviewing documents. Well-equipped with a full 1GB of memory and 160GB of hard drive space, the new Acer Aspire Ones are ready for customers who want to take their digital media and files with them. Select new models will feature up to 2GB of DDR2 memory and up to a 250GB internal hard drive, providing even more capabilities and storage space for mobile enthusiasts.

The Acer Crystal Eye™ webcam delivers smooth video streaming and high quality images for online chats and business video conferences, even in low-light situations. The built-in digital microphone conveys superior voice quality, keeping background noise levels low and minimizing echoes. Consumers will enjoy music and video sound with the Dolby Headphones and two built-in stereo speakers.

Connecting to the latest peripherals such as printers, a display and consumer electronics such as digital cameras is easy with the Acer Aspire Ones' useful ports (three USB 2.0, Ethernet, VGA) as well as Bluetooth capabilities that can be activated with the Easy Launch Bluetooth key. Both new models also feature a multi-in-one digital card reader, while the AO751h also features a dedicated SD card slot.

Samsung B7300 Gets Specced Out

Labels: ,

The Samsung B7300 is the S8300 UltraTOUCH without the slide portion of it - with its own set of underwhelming specs. The B7300 has a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display and the Omnia's TouchWiz-skinned Windows Mobile OS. What's really shocking is that this phone does not have WiFi or 3G - it only has EDGE. This makes more sense since it will be released on China Mobile and they don't have 3G over there. The Samsung B7300 also has: built-in GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, a microSD slot, FM radio, and only a 3MP camera. The pricing and release date has not been mentioned yet, but I'd be okay if this phone is only set for a release in China.

Archos Press Conference on June 11; Android Tablet Could Be Mentioned

Labels: , , ,

Archos has just announced that they will hold a press conference in Paris on June 11. Apparently, they could mention that 10mm thin, 500GB packing, Android tablet at the event since Android-green has been given an invite. If you remember correctly, Archos has reportedly been working on an Android tablet (here and here) and it's expected to be released this July. The event would be a perfect time to officially mention the device and get everyone ready for the release.

Just in case you forgot, the Android tablet from Archos is expected to have: a 5-inch touchscreen, 500GB of storage, Flash support, TV recording, HD playback, a battery long enough to last 7 hours of video playback, "voice and HSUPA data radio", and it will also have a TI OMAP3440 processor. Mark June 11 on your calendars because Archos must mention something about this device.

UMID M1 Looks Sexy In Black; DisplayLink USB Addition

Labels: , ,

UMID has finally strayed away from their traditional white keyboards with a new all-black version of the M1. The keyboard is still pretty tiny, but I have to mention that the black model is definitely much better looking than the white one. I think it looks less cheap. Apparently, UMID has a new port replicator the M1 which will allow you to use an external monitor using DisplayLink USB technology. As of right now, there's no word on when this DisplayLink addition will be available.

Philips Now Taking Pre-Orders For Their Lumiblade OLED Panels For DIY Work

Labels: , ,

Philips have now started to take pre-orders for their Lumiblade OLED panels. "Intended for DIY [Do it Yourself] lighting projects, the panels are pretty basic: the blue square OLED measures 43.7 x 47.4 mm, while the white freeform panel is 39.4m x 73.1 mm. Each has a driver box with dimmer and power switch, and puts out 1,000 cd/m2 brightness." I'm pretty sure the white freeform panel is 39.4mm and not 39.4m so that could be a typo on Slash Gear's part. If you want to take a look at some of the artwork that is possibly with these panels, take a look at this link. The Lumiblade panels are now priced at about €70 ($94 USD) each.

Samsung I7500 To Be Renamed to "Galaxy"; Expected in France in July

Labels: , , , , ,

Yes, that's right! The Samsung I7500 has reportedly gotten its name changed to the Samsung Galaxy - at least for those in France. Bouygues Telecom has just announced that they are expected to release Samsung's first Android device in early July. Just to recap, the Galaxy has: a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with a 480 x 320 resolution, WiFi, GPS, a 5MP camera, 8GB of storage, a microSD slot, and has quad-band GSM / tri-band HSDPA. Those in America are still expecting the I7500 or Galaxy to be released on T-Mobile this Fall. As of right now, I don't know if the American version will get the same name change.

Pentax K-7 DSLR Gets Some Confirmed Specs

Labels: , , ,

Remember that Pentax DSLR that has been teased to us a couple of times (here and here). Well it looks like it is the Pentax K-7 and I'm here with its spec sheet. First of all, the K-7 is said to have these specs, via Crunch Gear.

  • 14 megapixel

  • ISO 100-3200 (with a rumored 6400 available later)

  • 5.2 FPS until the buffer is full at 40 frames

  • A motion picture mode (which seems all the rage currently) at 1280 x 720 mode, which translates to 16:9 HD.

  • "Some of the more exciting specifications include the previously mentioned 100 percent viewfinder, a 14.6-megapixel CMOS sensor, the new "DRII" system which is intended to detect dust and warn the user if the sensor has become dirty, before it effects image quality. This feature hasn't shown up in Nikon or Canon yet, but perhaps in might in the future." This new DSLR from Pentax actually looks pretty good, and now we'll just have to see what the official price is. It's expected to be available in just 2 days, so it shouldn't be too long until the price gets revealed.

Take a look at the Pentax K-7 here, for some hands-on pictures.

More Supposed iPhone Specs Leak Out Again

    Labels: , , , , ,

The next iPhone that will, of course, be announced at this year's WWDC has gone through many, many rumours. According to the latest rumour, the new iPhone will be available on July 17th. For a full spec sheet, take a look below, courtesy of Boy Genius.

  • 32GB and 16GB storage

  • $199 and $299 price points to be maintained

  • 3.2-megapixel camera

  • Video-recording and editing capabilities

  • Ability to send a picture & video via MMS

  • Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device

  • OLED screen

  • 1.5 times the battery life of the current models

  • Double the RAM and processing power

  • Built-in FM transmitter

  • Apple logo on back will glow [please let this be a joke]

  • Rubber-tread backing

  • Sleeker design

  • Built-in compass

  • The camera, GPS, compass and Google map combined will identify photo and inform about photo locations

  • Turn-by-turn directions

  • These specs line up a bit with the rumours that we heard a week ago, so it could be somewhat accurate. The upgraded camera is a no-brainer, and so is the battery life. The OLED screen though, is a shocker to me, but it would definitely be a very good addition for the next iPhone. The RAM and processing power upgrade is also definitely welcomed. The next iPhone is said to basically have the exact same shape as the iPhone 3G, so don't expect anything too different. Don't forget, the rumoured release date is July 17, we'll see if that holds true in the future.

    Labels: , , ,

Apparently, someone on a forum has mentioned that the BlackBerry Storm 2 will be released by the end of next month on Verizon. Dell Latitude 2100 To Be Released Today

    Labels: ,

The colourful Dell Latitude 2100 netbook that we spotted 2 months ago will be available later today. You may remember them because they are pointed towards the education market, with their kid friendly colours, such as School Bus Orange and Blackboard Black. The Latitude 2100 is rugged (like all other 'Latitude's' that Dell pushes), and has options for a: carrying handle, shoulder strap, antimicrobial keyboard, touchscreen LCD, and Dell Mobile Computing Station, which would be suitable to lug around 24 of these. The netbook will have a base price of $369 USD, but that's sure to rack up with options like an SSD, the touchscreen LCD, and the improved 6-cell battery. Look out for it sometime today.

LG Unveils 5.9mm Thick 42 and 47-Inch LCD HDTVs

    Labels: , ,

These are not OLEDs in disguise, but they are thin enough to seem like one. LG has just shown off the world's thinnest 42 and 47-inch LCD (LED-backlit) HDTV panels measuring in at just 5.9mm (0.23-inches) thick. "A proprietary light guide sheet (LGS) was used to spread the backlighting out across the rear surface of the LCD panel; this new technology cut the thickness of a regular LGS by more than half." Maybe we should just keep developing LCDs, because the technology clearly has not peaked yet. Anyways, the new LCDs have: Full HD 1080p capabilities, LG's 120Hz anti-blur technology, 8ms response time, 80% color saturation, and 450 nits of brightness. The 42-inch model weighs just 6.1kg (13.42 pounds) and the 47-inch moel weighs just 7.3kg (16.06 pounds). LG never revealed the pricing or the release date, so we'll just have to wait to get our hands on these.

Sharp AQUOS SHOT 933SH Boasts 10MP; It's a Phone Too

    Labels: , , ,

Sharp has just announced one of their latest handsets. The Sharp AQUOS SHOT 933SH has a 3.3-inch touchscreen (WVGA) display and a 10 megapixel camera packed on. At first, I got fooled because I thought that large circle was the sensor and I figured it would actually pretty nice pictures. But, if you look closely, the sensor is still extremely tiny. Sharp did a great job by tricking us here. If you live in Japan, you can pick up this trickster when it gets released on SoftBank Mobile later this Summer (by the end of May apparently). No word on the price though, but it does have global roaming capability, so that's always good.

Palm Pre Officially Going To Be Released On June 6 For $199

    Labels: , , , , , , ,

Sprint has just confirmed and announced that the Palm Pre will be available on June 6th!! The pricing is $199.99 USD after a $100 mail-in rebate on a 2-year contract. It will be available at Sprint's retail stores, as well as Best Buy, Radio Shack, and a couple of Wal-Mart stores. "Along with the Pre, Sprint will be pushing their Everything Data plan for consumers and Business Essentials with Messaging and Data plan for corporate use. These include unlimited internet access, useful given the Pre's Synergy synchronization system." The Touchstone charger will also be available on June 6 for $69.99 USD. Unfortunately, the charging dock and the Touchstone back cover will be sold separately for $49.99 and $19.99 USD, respectively. Take a look at what Sprint had to say below, via Slash Gear.

Sprint to Offer Palm Pre Nationwide on June 6
Digital-age-defining Palm webOS phone is built for consumers and businesses alike, powered by America’s most dependable nationwide 3G network, with the best price plan value
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May. 19, 2009– Sprint (NYSE: S) today announced pricing and nationwide availability for the highly anticipated Palm® Pre™ phone, offered exclusively from Sprint. Palm Pre will be available nationwide on June 6 in Sprint stores, Best Buy, Radio Shack, select Wal-Mart stores and online at Sprint.com for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate. Running on the new Palm webOS™ mobile platform, Pre brings together your important information from where it resides – on your phone, at your work or on the web – into one logical view.(1)

For those who juggle life circa 2009 – bouncing from conference call to car pool schedule, from doctors’ numbers to doctoral thesis data, from social calendars to social networking – Pre marks a new wireless crossover standard. Before Pre, you had to compromise when selecting a wireless phone. To get the business features you needed, you had to sacrifice the personal entertainment features you wanted. Pre consolidates your important information – professional, social and personal – into one revolutionary device using an operating system that redefines the experience of living and working wirelessly.
“The argument that you need one phone for work and another phone for play, or that you have to make compromises between business and lifestyle productivity, is over,” said Dan Hesse, president and CEO of Sprint. “With Pre, compromises of the past are history.”
Palm Pre will run on America’s most dependable 3G network and come with Sprint’s industry-leading, value-oriented Everything Data plans that offer savings of up to $1,430 over two years vs. comparable AT&T and Verizon plans for smartphones and PDAs.(2)
“The Palm Pre takes full advantage of Sprint’s Everything Data plans,” said Avi Greengart, research director for Consumer Devices at Current Analysis. “The Pre has been expressly designed for multitasking among multiple web pages and applications. It also builds on Palm’s heritage in PDAs by managing your digital information – whether that’s on a corporate server or on the web.”
“The Pre’s dynamic ‘activity cards’ approach to handling and navigating multiple applications is a great advance, but the core breakthrough is the integration of information across multiple applications on and off the phone,” said Andy Castonguay, director of Mobile & Access Devices Research, Yankee Group. “With social networking and messaging being so important to consumers, the device’s new ‘Palm Synergy’ functionality – which gives Pre the ability to automatically pull friends’ contact details, messaging addresses and personal calendars from different applications online and on the phone – will greatly simplify people’s ability to communicate with their friends and colleagues the way they want.”
Pre: A New Kind of Phone
The new webOS platform introduces Palm Synergy™, a key feature that brings together your personal and professional calendar, contacts and e-mail into one centralized view, making transitions between work and personal life smooth and easy to manage.
    With Palm Synergy, users get:
Linked contacts – With Synergy, you have a single view that links your contacts from a variety of sources, so accessing them is easier than ever. For example, if you have the same contact listed in your Outlook(3), Google and Facebook accounts, Synergy recognizes that they’re the same person and links the information, presenting it to you as one listing.
Layered calendars – Your calendars can be seen on their own or layered together in a single view, combining work, family, friends, sports teams, or other interests. You can toggle to look at one calendar at a time, or see them all at a glance.
Combined messaging – Synergy lets you see all your conversations with the same person in a chat-style view, even if it started in IM and you want to reply with text messaging. You can also see who’s active in a buddy list right from contacts or e-mail, and start a new conversation with just one touch.
Palm webOS lets you keep multiple activities open and move easily between them like flipping through a deck of cards. You can move back and forth between text messaging and e-mail, or search the web while you listen to music. You can rearrange items simply by dragging them, and when you are done with something, just throw it away by flicking it off the top of the screen.

Finding what you need is also easy with universal search – as you type what you’re looking for, webOS narrows your search and offers results from both your device and the web.(4) WebOS crushes the barriers to true mobile computing.
“Pre is truly a new phone for a new web-centric age,” said Ed Colligan, Palm president and chief executive officer. “We’re a mobile society, and we want our people, calendars and information to move with us. With Pre’s exquisite design and the unique webOS software, running on Sprint’s fast broadband network, we’re changing the perception of what a wireless phone can be.”
Pre comes with a charger in the box, but for anyone tired of plugging a cord into their wireless phone, Palm introduces the Touchstone™ charging dock, the first inductive charging solution for phones, available exclusively for Pre. Simply set Pre down on top of the dock without worrying about connection, orientation or fit. Pre is active while charging, so you can access the touch screen, watch movies or video, or use the speakerphone. Set Pre on the charging dock when you’re on a call, and the speakerphone automatically turns on; when you take a ringing Pre off the dock, Pre automatically answers the call. Other mobile operating systems allow multitasking, but Palm has developed an intuitive method of switching between “cards,” which resemble clicking different tabs on a Web browser. New applications can be launched easily using the “Launcher” software button at the bottom of the home screen, and users navigate between different applications.
With nearly every wireless device today you have to exit one application completely before you can use another. That’s not what people are accustomed to; think of your PC and all the applications you can have open at one time.
Pre: The latest NOW Network milestone for Sprint
Pre also lets you access feature-rich Sprint content on the Sprint Now Network, including exclusive applications such as:
    Sprint Navigation(5)
    Sprint TV
    NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile Live
“Sprint’s Now Network brings you America’s most dependable 3G network, the largest push-to-talk community, and in selected markets Sprint is the only national carrier bringing 4G to life in 2009,”(6) Hesse said. “The Now Network is more than just a physical network – it’s also data plans that are all-inclusive, eliminating fear of data overages and a perfect fit for Palm Pre users.”

Sprint’s networks are now performing at best-ever levels, and Sprint’s high-value Everything data plans consistently beat AT&T’s and Verizon’s comparable plans in savings by hundreds, even thousands, of dollars over two years. With the revolutionary launch of Ready Now, which Sprint pioneered, customers leave the store educated, comfortable and confident about the phones they’re about to take home. As a result of these measures and more, Sprint customer satisfaction indices – from first call resolution to billing satisfaction, from customer care response time to service and repair – have all significantly improved during the past year.
    Pricing and Availability
The Palm Pre phone will be available from Sprint on June 6 for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year service agreement on an Everything Data plan or Business Essentials with Messaging and Data plan. An array of compelling accessories also will be available for Pre, including the Palm Touchstone charging dock. The Touchstone™ Charging Kit, which includes the Touchstone charging dock and Touchstone back cover for Pre, will be available June 6 for $69.99. The Touchstone charging dock and Touchstone back cover also are available separately from for $49.99 and $19.99, respectively.

Dell's 20-Inch ST2010 HD Shows Up As An Option For The Studio XPS Desktop

    Labels: , ,

The cheap Dell ST2010 LCD HD monitor is now available as an option on a Studio XPS desktop on Dell's official website. It's a 20-inch HD monitor and right now it will actually save you $30 USD on a new Studio XPS desktop if you buy one now. On the "Monitor" option, you'll have to scroll down, so make sure you look at all the options because you might skip it. It still doesn't have a price sold separately, but Engadget is going to guess that it will be in the $30 - $50 price range, which is just a little bit more than the $120 USD price that Hong Kong got.

    Capcom Confirms Tatsunoko vs Capcom

    Labels: , , ,

Looks like that magazine scan from 2 nights ago proved to be real. Last night, Capcom confirmed that Tatsunoko vs Capcom will be available in North America and it will be released for the Nintendo Wii. I don't know if it will be exclusive to the Wii, but so far, it looks like it is. This game will be playable at E3, so we'll get some hands-on footage of that in a couple of weeks!! I'm so excited for this year's E3, mainly for Sony's announcements though.
