More Palm Pre Details Semi-Revealed

Labels: , , , ,

Yes, these are only semi-revealed details because they haven't been confirmed yet. The Office 2007 support and the whole PictBridge thing is true though - at the very least. At launch, the Palm Pre will actually not be supporting video recording capabilities so that is fairly disappointing. Hopefully, it will be a software update shortly after launch because that's a pretty neat feature to have - and should be implemented at launch, in my opinion. Some unconfirmed Palm Pre details are listed below, special thanks to Gizmodo:

•No video recording at launch, though they seem to think such a thing will be added via update. (We knew this already)
•MMS support is confirmed
•They imply that
Office 2007 documents work fine on Pre, though they don't specify if it's read-only
•Custom ringtones are a go, as are ringback tones
•When in USB mode, all calls will be automatically routed to voicemail.
•IM Services: Google Talk and AIM at launch.
•The color for calendar events can be chosen manually on the Pre, or sync'ed with the colors you've got set up in Exchange
•Cookies can be disabled in the browser
•No pictbridge profile yet, so no wireless photo printing.

HTC Working On An Android Netbook For T-Mobile?

Labels: , , ,

I love Android rumours and we are beginning to see more and more as the time passes by. The latest rumour is that HTC is working on an Android-based netbook for T-Mobile, which makes sense. There's actually no specific details or no truth behind it, since this news was submitted from an anonymous tipster. HTC should have no problems making a netbook running Android though, since they've made the only current Android handsets and also have UMPC's like the HTC Shift to reflect on. We'll see what happens in the [possibly] near future. I'm definitely excited for an Android netbook, so I'm hoping for a company to take a risk sooner rather than later.

Studio Laptops Get WiMAX Option; Dell Working On An Android-Based Netbook

Labels: , , , , , ,

WiMAX it pretty rare right now, being in only a couple of places, specifically: Atlanta, Balitomore, and Portland. Dell looks to be preparing for the future by issuing a new WiMAX option to their Studio 15, Studio 17, and Studio XPS laptops. Keep in mind that if you do happen to get WiMAX, you will be paying a monthly cost from Sprint for the extra speed, so it may or may not be worth it right now.

It's no surprise that companies are testing Android to see if it is worthy for the netbook market. Well, the news is steam-rolling towards a possible Dell netbook. Bsquare issued a press release about Dell's supposed netbook without revealing any specific details. You can read the press release below, thanks to Gizmodo:

Bsquare to Port Adobe Flash Lite on New Google Android Netbook for Dell
Leverages Bsquare's Android Competency to Improve the Adobe(R) Flash(R) Lite Experience on Dell's Mini Inspiron 910
BELLEVUE, WA—(MARKET WIRE)—May 6, 2009 — Bsquare Corporation (BSQR - News), the leading software solutions provider to the global embedded device community, today announced it is porting Adobe's Flash Lite 3.17 technology onto Dell Netbooks running Google's Android platform.
Adobe is a leader in rich internet and user interface technology for mobile devices. Flash technology ships on over 800 million devices worldwide with more than one million designers and developers using Adobe Flash to build video and rich media applications.
Netbook and Nettop computers offer the functionality and efficiency of traditional laptops, but with lighter weight and better portability. Research firm Gartner estimates that worldwide shipments of netbooks will increase by 50 percent to 7.8 million units in 2009, while overall computer sales are expected to decline. Industry analysts also predict that Android will gain traction on smart devices, such as the ultra-portable Dell Mini Inspiron 910, which are used in a range of industries.
"Integrating Adobe Flash technology with the functionality of Google's Android platform on the full range of Netbook devices will allow our OEM customers to meet the high expectations their customers have of this new industry segment," said Bsquare's CEO Brian Crowley. "As the Netbook and Nettop market segments expand, our Adobe Flash Lite port to Android is just one of the software products we will offer our OEM and ODM customers."
In the last 12 months since its acquisition of NEC America's Adobe Flash Technology Consulting and Distribution business, Bsquare has worked on over 40 different customer devices including handsets, set top boxes, digital signage, consumer devices and netbooks. Bsquare has built an Android competency in its professional engineering services group through customer engagements and by hiring top talent in the field.

Asus Eee PC 1008HA "Shell" Available In The UK Starting On May 15

The Asus Eee PC 1008HA "Shell" has: a 10-inch LED-backlit display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution, the Intel N280 1.66GHz Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 4 103-Inch Plasma Hits America For $93,050

Labels: , ,

That's right folks. For those of you willing to spend a year's salary on a TV, this is the one you've been waiting for. On a side note, I'm definitely sure my mom doesn't make this kind of money in 1.5 years. Anyways, the BeoVision 4 (talked about it a while back) has just hit American soil for a retail price of $93,050 on a wall mount and $111,805 on a "motorized" floor stand. The price is already high enough, but it's actually cheaper than when Bang & Olufsen launched it in Europe, for $136,220 USD. So, you Americans get it for around $43,000 USD cheaper - just in case you couldn't do the math yourself. This TV is a 103-inch plasma HDTV and it also comes in a couple of colours: black, silver, red, blue, and dark grey. Engadget points out that "there is a three to four month lead time for each set" - but I have no clue what that means. Anyways, go out and grab one if you like - if you have money.

Palm Pre Coming To Canada Through Bell!!!

Labels: , , , , ,

Bell and Palm have just reached a deal and the bottom line is that the Palm Pre will be coming to Canada!!! I thought this handset would be a Sprint exclusive, but thankfully it's not. Unfortunately, I will probably not be getting one because it'll probably be quite expensive - rivaling the rates of the iPhone. It will make me really sad when I see someone with this phone though. Anyways, the Palm Pre will launch in Canada in the second half of this year, so we'll be getting it a bit later than our fellow Americans. The Pre will, of course, have WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and the 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 480 x 320 resolution. The Pre will also have 3G which suits Bell perfectly since they claim to have the largest 3G network in Canada. The pricing and exact release date is still unavailable, but you can check out a couple of websites for some information. Here are 2: Palm's Official Website (Canada), and Bell's Pre Listing. Here is the press release of the official announcement, thanks to Slash Gear:

Palm Pre to Arrive in Canada on Bell Mobility Network

TORONTO, May 06, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ:PALM) today announced that Palm Pre(TM), the first phone based on the new Palm(R) webOS(TM) mobile platform, will debut in Canada exclusively on Bell Mobility’s 3G high-speed mobile network in the second half of 2009.(1)
“We’re excited to bring Pre to Canada with Bell Mobility,” said Brodie Keast, senior vice president of marketing for Palm, Inc. “We’ve seen enormous interest from mobile operators worldwide and fully expect to continue to expand distribution for Pre, putting it within reach of more and more customers.”
Palm webOS is invented exclusively for mobile use. It’s the first mobile platform to automatically bring your information from the many places it resides - on your phone, at work or on the web - into one simple, integrated view.(1) The new Palm Pre and webOS are designed to be so in sync with your needs that it feels like Pre is thinking ahead for you.
Pre has a breakthrough user interface and hardware design that makes it the most integrated and user-friendly mobile phone. Featuring a smooth, rounded ergonomic design and a physical keyboard that slides out only when needed, Pre is engineered to feel natural in your hand and comfortably small in your pocket. When closed, Pre is ideal for phone calls, web browsing, music, photos and videos; when open, Pre is optimized for email and text messaging. It provides an exceptional experience for phone calls, whether held to your ear, over speakerphone or via Bluetooth. With its curved slider and gesture-controlled touch interface, Pre fuses exquisite design with the revolutionary webOS software for fast access to content on the device or web. It’s an instinctive user experience that seems to anticipate your needs.
“Bell is excited to be only the second carrier in the world to announce the 3G Pre,” said Adel Bazerghi, senior vice president of Products for Bell Mobility. “With the unique user experience of the world’s first webOS phone, running on the country’s largest 3G network, we’re confident that Canadians will embrace Pre as the phone for their lives today.”
Your Life, Brought Together
Palm webOS introduces Palm Synergy(TM), a key feature of the new platform that brings your information from all the places it resides into one logical view. You don’t have to worry about tracking multiple calendars, contacts and messaging applications - Synergy seems to think ahead to bring you a more comprehensive and truly representative view of your life.
Linked contacts - With Synergy, you have a single view that links your contacts from a variety of sources, so accessing them is easier than ever. For example, if you have the same contact listed in your Outlook(2), Google and Facebook accounts, Synergy recognizes that they’re the same person and links the information, presenting it to you as one listing.
Layered calendars - Your calendars can be seen on their own or layered together in a single view, combining work, family, friends, sports teams, or other interests. You can toggle to look at one calendar at a time, or see them all at a glance.
Combined messaging - Synergy lets you see all your conversations with the same person in a chat-style view, even if it started in IM and you want to reply with text messaging. You can also see who’s active in a buddy list right from contacts or email, and start a new conversation with just one touch.
Your Information, Effortlessly
By smartly integrating your information, webOS is designed to think ahead for you and keep you on top of the things that happen in your life, but that’s just the first step. The platform’s unique interface brings your information to you with the ease that only Palm can offer.
Run multiple applications at the same time - Palm’s revolutionary webOS lets you manage multiple activities more effectively than any other mobile platform today. It lets you keep multiple activities open and move easily between them like flipping through a deck of cards. You can rearrange items simply by dragging them; when you are done with something, just throw it away by flicking it off the top of the screen. (3)
Web-connected applications - Applications are seamlessly connected to the web and always active(3), ensuring you have the most up-to-date information.
Universal search - Finding what you need is easy with universal search - as you type what you’re looking for, webOS narrows your search and offers results from both your device and the web.(4)
Intuitive and unobtrusive notifications - When important things come up or new updates arrive, you’ll receive notifications with a diplomacy that’s a radical departure from other mobile platforms. For example, if you receive a text message or email, a scrolling notifications bar at the bottom of your screen lets you address it right away or leave until later. webOS alerts are one step ahead, ensuring that you never miss a thing, but never lose your place or train of thought.

Another Leaked T-Mobile Roadmap; Reveals Release Dates and Visual Voicemail

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

Here's a nice leak. This lines up perfectly with the last T-Mobile Summer roadmap we saw leaked just over a month ago. Okay, maybe not perfectly - but pretty darn close to it. The HTC Touch Pro 2 on July 22, the T-Mobile Dash 3G (HTC Snap) on July 1, the Sony Ericsson CS8 on June 24, and the Samsung T469 on July 15. A new entry on this sheet is the Sony Ericsson CS5, which wasn't revealed before. This sheet also mentions a new piece of software which will be Visual Voicemail and it will launch on July 16. We'll see exactly what this is, since word will probably break out sooner or later. I hope the HTC Rhodium aka Touch Pro 2 gets some good reviews when WinMo 6.5 gets slapped onto it because I need an alternate for the Nokia N97.

AT&T Launching BlackBerry 8900 On May 15; Bold Price Drop

Labels: , , , , ,

AT&T has already confirmed that the BlackBerry Curve 8900 will indeed be hitting their shelves. According to the latest rumours, the BlackBerry 8900 will be hitting AT&T on May 25, instead of the "early Summer" / June release date. It is also said to be launching for $149 USD on a 2-year contract. AT&T's BlackBerry Bold will also apparently see a price drop to $199 on a 2-year contract, so this Summer looks like it will be a large BlackBerry-filled pie. Especially with the release of the sexy BlackBerry Tour aka Niagara aka 9630.
