Intel's 2GHz Atom Z550 Processor; Happy Birthday Atom!

Labels: , , , , ,

Believe it or not but this is Intel Atom's 1st birthday! It was an amazing year for Intel as they continue to dominate the netbook CPU war. The current Atom N280 runs 1.66GHz and the new Intel Atom Z550 is rocking 2GHz of speed. The new Atom Z550 has Hyperthreading support and runs on just 3W of power. Along with the Atom Z550 is the Atom Z515 which is a 1.2GHz CPU and will be mainly used for MIDs. We should see the Z515 soon, but we'll see when the 2GHz Atom Z550 gets its first release.

The iPhone Nano Is Now Available!!; Yes, A Fake One

Labels: , ,

Obviously a knock-off, so don't get your hopes up. Below is a 9-minute video on the CECT M188 MINI aka a fake iPhone Nano. It's the unboxing of the CECT handset and shows off some of its menus, y'know, the Works. It looks extremely similar to the iPhone but just just a bit smaller, looks thicker, and has sub-par specs. The M188 has Bluetooth, FM radio, and a VGA camera - just when you thought the iPhone 3G's camera was bad at 2 megapixels. A good thing about the iPhone Nano is that it is only $103 USD, so go and try to get your hands on it if you want... Watch the video below, if you want to.

10 Acer / eMachines / Gateway Notebooks and Netbooks All Announced

Labels: , , , , , , , , , ,

At Acer's event they are unveiling a bunch of things. So, instead of writing out at least 10 different posts on 10 different laptops, I might as well pull Engadget's list now. They decided to summarize it all up in a couple of points. Here goes:

  • Aspire 5935 and 8935: The 18.4-inch 8935 laptop can output a 1080p resolution, True 5.1 channel surround sound and houses up to two HDDs totaling 1TB capacity. The 5935 meanwhile can hold just one 500GB HDD and doesn't do full HD. Both support up to 4GB DDR3 memory, biometric fingerprinting, 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, and optional WiMAX.

  • Aspire 3935: A 13.3-inch ultra portable with 1366 x 769 resolution LED-backlit LCD and Intel Core 2 Duo / GM45 express chipset. Features built-in Wi-Fi / WiMAX, up to 4GB DDR3 RAM, biometric fingerprints, and 8 hours of use with a 8-cell battery.

  • eMachines D, E, and G series (pictured): 16 x 9 aspect ratio LCD. Available with Intel Celeron or Pentium processors for all models, plus option for AMD Athlon with E and G series. 14-inch D and 17-inch G have up to 4GB DDR2 RAM, 500GB HDD, while the 15.6-inch E series can feature up to 5GB. All of them boast a wide keyboard, WiFi, webcam, DVD drive, a 5-in-1 card reader, and Windows Vista SP1.

  • Gateway EC series: Lightweight and less than 1-inch thick. The 13-inch netbook has an LED backlit screen with 16 x 9 aspect ratio, Dolby Sound Room, SSD, DDR3 RAM, HDMI out, optional 3G and Bluetooth, webcam, and capacitive hotkeys on top of the keyboard.

  • Gateway 10.1-inch LT20, 11.6-inch LT30: Both are under 2.62 pounds, boast built-in WiFi, Webcam, optional Bluetooth and 3G modules, 5-in-1 card reader, and up to 160GB HDD. The touch pad supports multi-gesture features and reportedly it comes with a "cool protective bag" -- yay?

  • Gateway ID series: Available in glossy midnight blue or night sky with a matte interior and silver-colored touchpad. It's got an 15.6-inch LED backlit screen, slot-in DVD drive, webcam with a curtain (for privacy, obviously), mult-gesture touchpad, and capacitive hotkeys on top of the keyboard.

  • As you can see, there were a bunch of new products that Acer / eMachines / Gateway put out at this event. They all look great having their own unique specs. The sad thing is that for all of these laptops there has been no announcement of the price or the availability. Those will probably be announced in a couple of days or weeks.

eMachines and Acer's All-in-One PCs In More Depth

    Labels: , , , ,

Since you've already seen the Acer Z5600 all-in-one PC there was no point in having another picture of it. Pictured above is the eMachines EZ1600 all-in-one PC. It has an 18.5-inch with a 720p resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, the Intel Atom 1.6GHz N270 CPU, 2 slots of SO DIMM memory, up to 160GB HDD, DVD-RW, WiFi, and a multiple card reader. It's an average all-in-one PC and it will be available in black or silver - when it gets released - but there is no word on the price or availability right now.

The better Acer Aspire Z5600 all-in-one PC shouldn't disappoint anybody. It has a 24-inch multitouch display with a 1080p resolution, up to 2TB of HDD storage, a TV tuner, an integrated webcam, and a DVD / Blu-ray writer. At the event Acer showed off the new Windows 7 touch on this all-in-one since it claims to be "Windows 7 ready." It has amazing specs for an all-in-one, but we're all just curious to know the price and availability. That information has yet to be released.

    Gateway's Pininfarina-Designed Notebook

    Labels: , , , , ,

Keep in mind that Pininfarina is not the name of the actual notebook. Pininfarina is a company that designs computers (known for the Ferrari lineup) and this is what they did here. They managed to sneak it a whole number pad on the right side of the keyboard and they also added the "swoop" at the bottom of the monitor - but I have no clue what its uses are. Anyways, the Gateway ID notebook designed by Pininfarina has a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The notebook itself also has Dolby speakers and the touchpad is multitouch. Acer Aspire One 10.1 and 11.6-inch Netbooks; Gateway Too

    Labels: , , , , ,

The new Acer Aspire One will come in a 10.1 and an 11.6-inch form. They have: standard keyboards, an LED-backlit WXGA display, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, the Intel Atom, and a 160GB HDD while managing to be just under an inch thick. The battery is said to last around eight hours which is great for portability. On a side note, Gateway has also announced their own 10.1 and 11.6-inch netbooks. Gizmodo says that they look better than the Aspire One netbooks and they also have basically the same specs and has a multitouch touchpad (for gestures).
