Kindle 3, Mozilla Fennec Name Change, LG Leaving The Plasma World

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Kindle 2 was just released and now we head back to the new rumours. The Kindle 3 rumours, that is. Apparently, PVI (Prime View International, the makers of the Kindle's display) has mentioned that the next Kindle will have a larger display and will have "touch functions." The screen may be the size of a regular sheet of paper, which is 8.5 x 11-inches. This would make things more readable. The Kindle 3 is supposedly going to hit shelves by the end of this year. Maybe the next Kindle will have pinch and zoom? Multi-touch functionality? Hello Apple lawsuit.

Mozilla is still currently working on their mobile browser. It is called Mozilla Fennec and has already been released. Unfortunately, it's only in an alpha state right now. Well, the head-honchos over at Mozilla have finally decided to change the name Fennec to something more creative. They've decided to change the name to Firefox (told you it was creative). Yeah. Mozilla Fennec has changed its name to Mozilla Firefox, which is identical to their web browser. Very creative Mozilla. +1.

A new rumour has spawned from the LG camp this time. Apparently, LG may stop producing their own plasmas. They may be leaving the plasma business for good. They'll still be continuing their LCD line-up, but it looks like they may "give up" on plasma TVs. This isn't too surprising after seeing Pioneer and Vizio leave the plasma business earlier this year. I think LCDs are just superior to plasmas. TV makers should also be getting OLED TVs out there, even though it is quite expensive. OLED has more future than plasma does, in my opinion.

Dell SX2210 LCD Monitor, Adobe AIR, Blogger and Google Friend Connect

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Alongside the Dell Studio XPS 435 comes the new Dell LCD Monitor, dubbed the SX2210. It is quite sexy, just like the desktop itself. The new 22-inch Dell LCD Monitor has a 1080p resolution, a 1000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and a 2ms response time. It also comes with an integrated 2.0MP webcam, "160 degrees horizontal / 170 degrees vertical viewing angles, and 300 cd/m² brightness." Dell hasn't mentioned the availability or the price of the monitor. But, Engadget is hoping that it will be released on the same day the Studio XPS 435 will be shipping. That means they're hoping for a March 19 shipping date.

This so-called Adobe AIR application caught my eye, it's called Accuweather. Off the bat, it reminded me of Google gadgets. Up to this point, i still don't know exactly what Adobe AIR is used for. It seems to me that it's like a bunch of gadgets, but it's actually more like applications. After seeing Accuweather and the new update of Adobe AIR a couple of days ago on Filehippo, i've finally decided to see what Adobe AIR is all about. Tomorrow i'm going to download a couple of Adobe AIR applications i found today and test them out. The only ones i'm really considering is Accuweather, the Gmail and also the Google Reader ones. I don't remember the exact names, but i saw them on Mashable earlier.

It's about time Google. After launching Google Friend Connect last Fall, they have finally made it of more use to Blogger users. I use the "Followers" gadget as well as Google Friend Connect on my blog, so that there is a variety of ways users can follow me. I actually noticed lately that a couple of people have abandoned my blog because they weren't showing up on my "Followers" gadget. But, i just found out why. This would answer me and ashlee's problem. Anyways, Google has changed the "Followers" gadget, so that it is implemented with Google Friend Connect. Basically, you may need to re-follow all those blogs that you were previously following. Currently, it seems like there are a couple of issues because i still can't follow some people (ashlee included) on Blogger. It's good that they've implemented this. It's a small change, but a well-needed one. If you want to look at a video about the new addition go to the Official Google Blog here. I just tried to add the "Social Bar" to my blog, but it blocks some of the information at the stop of my page, so as soon as i can fix that problem, you'll see that at the top of the page. As a workaround, i've decided to put the "Social Bar" at the bottom of the page. Enjoy! =D
